Pursuing the Jewish vote is a chimera in much the same way as pursuing the black and Hispanic vote is. It is delusional, ignores history, and wastes resources.

But when the best choice on the short list just happens to be Jewish, it isn't unreasonable to pick him and hope there is some corresponding benefit in the Jewish vote.

Best choice is a subjective judgment. Cantor is not the person I would select to be a heartbeat away from the Presidency, especially when you have the oldest man ever to run for the first time for President and with a history of serious medical problems.

Exactly. MeanWestTexan isn't playing identity politics while at the same time acknowledging that many people do. As for myself, Cantor piqued my interest when he first came to light because he got some good recommendations on here, but I never really looked that deeply into him.

Well, I just did, and I must say I'm quite impressed. He's the opposite of an identity-political pick; he's someone conservatives could actually be excited about for his record, backbone, and communication skills from what I've seen. I'm officially in the Cantor camp now, with Palin in second place because she has credibility on energy.

Kabar is right...it is pursuing the chimera. If the American people are willing to nominate a Black for President, being a Mormon is a petty issue.
Mean-spirited, plagiarizng “Plugs” Biden needs to be countered with an attack dog...Giuliani has too much heavy duty baggage...Romney’s baggage is trivial...especially compared to his stature, appeal, intelligence and articulateness!
