ARLINGTON, Va., August 27 /Standard Newswire/ -- Today, U.S. Senator John McCain's presidential campaign released its latest television ad, entitled "Tiny." The ad highlights Barack Obama's belief that Iran "doesn't pose a serious threat" even though they support terrorism, are developing nuclear capabilities and repeatedly threaten to eliminate Israel. If Barack Obama doesn't consider those "serious threats" then he is dangerously unprepared to be president. The ad will air in key states.

Script For "Tiny" (TV :30)

ANNCR: Iran. Radical Islamic government. Known sponsors of terrorism.

Developing nuclear capabilities to "generate power" but threatening to eliminate Israel.

Obama says Iran is a "tiny" country, "doesn't pose a serious threat".

Terrorism, destroying Israel, those aren't "serious threats"?

Obama -- dangerously unprepared to be president.

JOHN MCCAIN: I'm John McCain and I approved this message.

AD FACTS: Script For "Tiny" (TV :30)

ANNCR: Iran. Radical Islamic government. Known sponsors of terrorism. Developing nuclear capabilities, to "generate power" but threatening to eliminate Israel. Obama says Iran is a "tiny" country, "doesn't pose a serious threat". Terrorism, destroying Israel, those aren't "serious threats"? Obama -- dangerously unprepared to be president. JOHN MCCAIN: I'm John McCain and I approved this message.

· In May 2008, Barack Obama Called Iran A "Tiny" Country That Doesn't "Pose A Serious Threat To Us." OBAMA: "Strong countries and strong Presidents talk to their adversaries. That's what Kennedy did with Khrushchev. That's what Reagan did with Gorbachev. That's what Nixon did with Mao. I mean think about it. Iran, Cuba, Venezuela -- these countries are tiny compared to the Soviet Union. They don't pose a serious threat to us the way the Soviet Union posed a threat to us. And yet we were willing to talk to the Soviet Union at the time when they were saying we're going to wipe you off the planet. And ultimately that direct engagement led to a series of measures that helped prevent nuclear war, and over time allowed the kind of opening that brought down the Berlin Wall. Now, that has to be the kind of approach that we take. You know, Iran, they spend one-one hundredth of what we spend on the military. If Iran ever tried to pose a serio us threat to us, they wouldn't stand a chance. And we should use that position of strength that we have to be bold enough to go ahead and listen. That doesn't mean we agree with them on everything. We might not compromise on any issues, but at least we should find out other areas of potential common interest, and we can reduce some of the tensions that has caused us so many problems around the world." (Sen. Barack Obama, Remarks, Pendelton, OR, 5/18/08)

Iran is bigger than France or Germany or the UK or Italy.

Iran has more people than France or the UK or Italy.

Out of 220 countries it ranks 18th in size and 17th in population.

I totally disagree with you, that is a great ad that further exposes Obambi’s gross inexperience. Keep em’ coming Mac, you’re kicking the messiah’s a$$!

Iran is tiny compared to Obama’s 57 state union, which include the states of China, Brazil and Russia. ;o)

I don’t think it’s mediocre. But I do agree it would have been more effective with video/audio clips of the Obamessiah making those nonsensical comments.

Great ad. Can’t believe the Repubs are fighting. And with great humor in some, facts in others, quoting the messiah himself.

And they're fighting him not by using innuendos about his drug abuse, or suggesting affairs, or mentioning his birth certificate or suggesting that he is still a Muslim.

They are fighting himon substance: by pointing out that he is more of a celebrity than an accomplished public servant, that he lacks experience, that he lacks basic geopolitical sense, that he openly associates himself with very shady characters like Tony Rezko and Bill Ayers.

It's all above-the-belt stuff and the public realizes that Obama is not being smeared, but being challenged.

Exactly right. Land areas in sq km:

Italy 301,333 , Japan 377,873, Germany 356,910, total 1,036,116

Iran 1,648,000

Iran is substantially bigger than the combined Axis Powers from WW II, and I'm sure McCain knows that, even though Obama doesn't know or doesn't want to admit it. Even if you prefer to look at oil revenue or their enthusiam for terrorism and war instead of just area, the conclusion is the same. They're not tiny.

I sure didn’t mean to imply McCain should stop powerful ads. I LOVE them!!! I just think it works soooo much better when it’s a clip of Obama saying it himself, as opposed to his words type written on the screen.

I say, keep em comin’! And Fox better get off their lib a$$es and run that ayers ad too. That’s ridiculous. Especially since obummer has now countered it with an ad of his own.

Great ad. It will really resonate with Jewish Democrats, many who are already leaning towards McCain.

The McCain List.

A hard hitting ad going after Obama's naivety on Iran.

He has got to do better ads than this. He's going to get blasted for distorting what Obama said. The quote was “these countries are tiny compared to the Soviet Union.”

Is there anyone working for McCain that knows how to do good advertising?

Iran is by no means tiny, however landmass certainly is only a minor factor when it comes to determining "strength" (e.g. military strength). Population size is one (i.e. number of potential soldiers. For comparison purposes:

Germany 82 million
Japan 127 million

Iran 70 million

However, what made e.g. Germany a major power in both world wars, was industrial output, which translates into the ability to sustain a war machine. Also there is the technological development of a society, both these factors play into the GDP. And that's where the real difference is:

Germany 3.3 trillion $ (slightly above China)
Japan 4.3 trillion $

Iran 0.3 trillion $(without the oil business probably an even lower number)

I agree in terms of an extended war that GDP and population are important factors. Still, I would keep in mind the fraction of their GDP that Iran is willing to spend on warfare and their willingness to recruit and deploy large numbers of boys as young as 13 for both infantry warfare and terrorism. While neither helps in winning a sustained ground war, both factors will make the conflict more expensive for us if we wait to fight Iran until they are ready and a nuclear power.
