DENVER -- Barack Obama tapped Joe Biden to be his running mate because of his working-class roots, foreign policy experience and ability to deliver a sharp rhetorical attack.

But in Biden's first stop as the presumptive vice-presidential nominee, he showed another skill important for the campaign trail: an appreciation for unhealthy food.

The Delaware senator, joined by a whole clan of Bidens that included his daughter, wife, brother and two sons, bought five pulled pork sandwiches and a lemonade in downtown Denver at a street vendor called Boney's Smokehouse. At the photo-op, which was arranged by the Obama campaign, Biden shook hands with people in a crowd of more than 100, who were joined by more than 50 journalists.

He then greeted the employees at Boney's. They had been told he was coming but were surprised by his order: Obama aides had told them to prepare turkey legs.

Obama’s tightly wrapped message now dictating what Joe Biden eats? Did they want pictures of him gnawing at a big leg like Fred Flinstone? Is this a sign of hostility to Joe, or they thought the “small guy” needs to see such an image to impress him?

The Bidens apparently outnumber any other ethnic group in Delaware, which explains why Joe Biden has been such a long-time recumbent.

This VP selection is a mystery. Perhaps no one else would come out and play with BHO? Lola Fulana, Pat Buchanan's old running mate would have been much more interesting. For the same amount of money, which is no short supply at BHO HQ, they could have bought a live candidate.

I have to admit I was surprised. I’ve been expecting some kind of coup from the Clintons so much that its hard for me to accept that they are finally gone.

So, now we have to defeat Obama, obviously, but I don’t think she’ll be a threat four years from now, which means the Clintons are gone.
