DENVER -- With Barack Obama poised to become the first black candidate nominated by a major party for president, Ohio's delegates to the Democratic National Convention this week say race is his biggest obstacle to being elected.

Delegates also are concerned about what could be perceived as Obama's inexperience or an agenda that's too liberal, but race by far was the top worry of those who responded to a mail survey by The Dispatch.

"If he had the exact same agenda and he was a white male named Stanley Smith, he would crush John McCain," said Jaladah Aslam, 48, a delegate from Austintown. "America needs to face one of its foremost demons in the face and deal with it once and for all: racism."

Yo... Jaladah!

This is such a tired old (an convenient excuse) argument. If Colin Powell had decided to run a few years back, I have no doubt we would have elected him (he would have had my vote).

It ain’t about race from this voter’s perspective. But listening to this candidate’s pastor (for the last twenty+ years,) race is the ONLY issue out there. They brought it back into the picture and they have only themselves to blame when it backfires.
Barack is not the guy, this is not the time.

Keep the Change.

LOL, if he was named Stanley Smith, he’d be getting trounced. The ONLY reason obamalamadingdong is this close is white guilt and the AA vote..

Dare I say it?

There is one reason and one reason only a man with Obama's dearth of qualifications and surfeit of anti-American Marxist baggage will be nominated: he is Afro American.

So, America has to confront racism by electing a candidate on the basis of race.

Makes perfect sense.

Spot on!

When race continues to raise its ugly head then I know that the Obama camp is desperate. They can't win on the issues so they use the "white guilt" approach.

And that's one of the biggest problems with significant numbers of liberals and African Americans - they obsess about race, rather than evaluating an individual's character, values, competence and qualifications.

I'm not voting for Obama, but it has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH THE FACT THAT HE HAS BLACK SKIN.

Sheesh...

The liberals are the most racist folks on the planet. This is why they say race is most important obstacle because its their obstacle.

The myth of the split over Hillary is bunk, its a split over race and its the heart of the liberal democrats who believe that blacks are inferior.

Amongst my friends, neighbors, coworkers and acquaintances, the number who’ll never vote for a “ni&&er” seem to be about counterbalanced by those affirmative action voters who’ll vote for the polite black man, every time, even if he’s less qualified and not ready, just because he’s, as Joe Biden put it, a “mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy.”

Race seems to be a wash in my corner of the sticks.
