ATLANTA – Bob Barr, a former Georgia congressman and the Libertarian Party’s nominee for president, responds to concerns that he’ll siphon votes from Republican John McCain.

“The fact of the matter is the Republican Party has problems that go far deeper than Bob Barr,” he said.

Barr is fundraising in Georgia over the weekend.

“Our goal is to impede the chances to be president for both Sen. McCain and Sen. Obama,” Barr added.

Barr is one of two former Georgia congressional representatives running on third party tickets. Cynthia McKinney is the Green Party’s presidential nominee.

“Our goal is to impede the chances to be president for both Sen. McCain and Sen. Obama,”

Not sure how he will do that. One of these two WILL be President unless Bob Barr has some secret massive army and is planning some sort of coup.

I said it yesterday - Barr is nuttier than “the little hand grenade with a bad haircut” Ross Perot on LSD.
Go away Bob, just go away.

Mr. Barr has every right to run for President and the Libertarian Party has every right to field the candidate of their choice. The American people - alone - are responsible for the consequences of their votes. If the Obama/Biden ticket prevails, the American people deserve the consequences.

John McCain has an opportunity to make his case to the American people. Hopefully our neighbors will have the good sense to see that he is the best choice we have this cycle. If not, we (collectively) deserve the boatload of excrement we will get.

Wasn’t this fellow a leader in the impeachment of Clinton? Wasn’t he also a fierce drug warrior?

Now he is a Libertarian?

So you would vote for Cindy who hates Jews and Israel.
If you are not an observant Jew, at least think of the 6 Million and the ones still being killed

At least Ross Perot had the respect of a lot of military people he went out of his way to help.

I voted for him, and it was the biggest political mistake of my life.

Never again.

Barr is employed by the ACLU, is anti war, for legalizing drugs, for gay marriage, etc.

What a fool. Barr might as well cover his car with Obama/Biden bumper stickers and put huge Obama/Biden signs in his yard to show who he is really helping.

Ross Perot gave us 8 years of the Clintons and Barr is working hard to give us 8 years of Obama.

Thanks for nothing, Bob.

Are they implying that Barr and McKinney are working together? Or is Barr really stupid enough to think he and his gang of merrymen can somehow "impede" both parties?

Libertarians should have nominated him only if he agreed to one thing:

Promote the Libertarian Party, NOT just your ego.

Were Bob Barr to put half of his futile efforts into getting Libertarian candidates elected in weak, underpopulated congressional seats around the country, in a single election they could become a serious party with real power.

Right now, the balance of power between the Republicans and the Democrats is thin. Even a dozen Libertarian congressmen, elected from little Podunk districts, could force the two main parties to give them power far beyond their numbers, in exchange for Libertarian support.

In a single election, on the issues they really care about, the Libertarians would have the swing vote!

The same applies to the Constitution Party. They could become extremely powerful after just ONE election.

But the presidential contenders for both parties have huge, bloated egos that demand that THEY waste all the party resources in a futile effort to become a spoiler.

It would be so incredibly easy to get real power, but they never do it.

Ross Perot gave us 8 years of the Clintons

How wrong you are on that statement. "No New Taxes" Bush handed the election to Clinton the first time. The republican party with Bob Dole at the helm handed Clinton the second time. The republican party must be going with the trivicta with McCain.
