IOC Finally Takes Action on Gymnast Scandal but is it Too Late?

am not going to allow myself to wonder why the IOC (International Olympic Committee) waited until three days before the end of the Olympics to fully address the Chinese gymnastic age scandal. I am not going to even dwell on the fact that the ID’s and birth certificates that China provided to the IOC last night could easily have been modified or reissued. I am just happy to see that the IOC took action...

Better late than never I suppose...but I have a feeling that FIG will not get far in its investigation.

I expect the investigation to be simply window dressing.

I used to run the 100 meters in college (it was 100 yds. back then), and Bolt’s time is just plain phenomenal.

My bet is that they wait until after the olympics have closed and is yesternews before they dock china with a disqualification of all medals won by the 3 prepubescents including the team medal and give them to the USA.

The “investigation” lasted something like 6 hours on Friday night. All they said was that they were unable to find proof.

So I suppose the news articles and spreadsheets published by the Chinese gov’t itself that were being modified or pulled as quickly as bloggers and US news organizations could cache them or distribute copies isn’t sufficient “proof”.

The IOC is the UN.

IOC was hoping the Chinese check would clear before this hit the news.

The IOC is probably a tad bit worried about being marched off and having a bullet placed in it’s head.

They probably want to get all athletes and their people out of there before any caca hits the fan. The communists never like being called out on their B.S.
At the sametime, I have no faith in FIG or IOC doing anything serious. Dog and Pony show. FIG and IOC will keep punting the ball at each other hoping it all blows over with time.

The only one who looks 16 is the supposed 20 year old. Investigate her too. She’s probably only listed as 20 because she lied 4 years ago to compete in Athens!

And the Chinese double bronze winner from 2000 has now admitted she was only 14. Strip the medals! Fine China! Bar them from the next Olympics!

If half the kooks here on FReep can’t decipher even WHERE a current U.S. presidential candidate was born, how can anyone expect the medal-hungry host country of the Olympics to come up with undoctored birf records??
