My experience with women in the workplace is similar to the USA’s experience with the Chinese at the Olympics. They cheat.

I've always acted more like a man in my interpersonal relationships. Nose to the grindstone. Abhor gossipy and talkative people. I get along with both sexes very well, because I'm not a phony and I pull my weight.

I know that one as I work for two women and I am the only guy and I am trying to get out.

The only time I've ever felt uncomfortable at work was in a bullpen room, populated solely by a dozen or so female graphics designers and gay men. I hated having to go there and fix PCs, especially if I needed to bend over and climb around under their desks. It was like throwing a pork chop in a lion's cage. And, it's not like I'm a male model or anything, they just did it because they could get away with it.

My boss used to work for Chippendales and he refused to go there. He used to send me.

Complain about it? Suuuuuuure. "The mean girls picked on me." That'd go over big.

They would all agree on a story and blame you!

In the alternative I wold consider hiring a bunch of gay guys. Figure it would be a lot less hassle

Not my experience, sorry. :-( Check out my previous post.

I also worked in the garment industry for a bit. The NYC office was populated solely by Bitchy Asian Women, and Bitchier Gay Men. They liked me OK, because I fixed their PCs and stayed out of their petty games. But, the office politics in that place were the worst I've ever seen. Downright nasty.

Honest to God, you want a coordinated team, go hire a bunch of straight men. All men. The sheer competition alone will ensure that they get the job done. The best IT teams that I've been on were all guys, or guys with a few extremely smart, secure (read non-feminist, one-of-the-boys) females. We got it done, period.

You're so right.

If one person....one....had a computer problem, they all had the same problem. My favorite was the time that one person couldn't print, so they all started whining about it....I was understanding until one of them started whining about their home PC not printing, either. I asked her if she honestly thought I came into her house and broke her home printer. No answer.

Later on, I was talking to that same whiner's boss when she came up to complain, and really just to cause trouble for me. "My computer's broke! I haven't been able to get anything done for WEEKS!" she whined. Her boss got interested immediately...."So, exactly *what* have you been doing during that time?" she asked.

No answer. She really wasn't all that smart, and didn't last too long.

Feminazi may be a bit strong most of the time. Man-hater may apply once in a while.

I don't go asking about anyone else's life. A person's individual life is their own affair.

I also don't use buzzwords and "task" as a verb either. Apparently that is frowned on. Having to hear that every tiny event on the face of the earth has to be a "team" effort" is a favorite sermon. Oh well....

The worst thing that can happen is being fired or laid off. They can't put me in the brig or have me shot.

People have been jumping ship left and right throughout the whole organization. There is something going on.

Playing by the rules and fighting fair has been a big handicap to me. I was brought up to be respectful, courteous, humble, so forth/so on. When I was brought to a session with the leader and bigger leader, I figured the leader put him up to it. He had hardly said a word to me in two years and never had a problem with the guy who is retiring in a couple of months. Some trivial stuff (nothing compared to what other people do normally) a few months back was now a super big deal. I was irked about it and that experience opened my eyes.

With all of the PC stuff, harrassment complaints, and other landmines out there, about all I seem to be able to do is bite my tounge.

I used to work around a couple of gay guys. They were OK as far as I was concerned. Never had a problem and it didn't matter to me that they were. Maybe that is why we got along so well. Either that or we all liked the same 70's TV shows.
