Durham, N.C. The woman at the center of the 2006 scandal that rocked Duke University, Durham and the lives of the three lacrosse players she accused of raping her is coming out with a book.
Crystal Gail Mangum worked as an exotic dancer in March 2006, when she performed at a party hosted by several Duke lacrosse players.
It was at that party, Mangum alleged, that three white members of the team trapped her inside a bathroom and raped and sexually assaulted her. David Evans, Collin Finnerty and Reade Seligmann were later indicted on the allegations.
The claims also launched a local and national debate about race, politics, ethics and privilege.
Then-District Attorney Mike Nifong dismissed rape charges against the men in December 2006 after Mangum said she was not certain a rape occurred.
North Carolina Attorney General Roy Cooper dismissed the remaining charges of sexual assault and kidnapping in April 2007 and declared the former players innocent.

I don’t see how she and her publisher won’t avoid a slander suit.
The charges weren’t just dropped; they were exonerated, they were declared innocent by a court opinion.
She is literate? Somehow I doubt her writing skills rise to a book. In fact, I will be surprised if they rise to a single, grammatically correct sentence.
Tawana Brawley.
Seriously, why is this bitch not in jail? I don’t want to hear any BS about how Nifong manipulated her. She is garbage and should be in jail.
I would call Larry King many things, but never a minor. Mummy, maybe, but not a minor. :)
I just called Attorney General Roy Cooper’s office
(919) 716-6400
and asked if he was going to prosecute Crystal Mangum now that she is writing a book.
For those of you who weren’t following this story the AG claimed she wasn’t going to be prosecuted because she was too mentally disturbed.
Now she is well enough to write a book she’s well enough to prosecute for filing a false police report.
“Seriously, why is this bitch not in jail? I dont want to hear any BS about how Nifong manipulated her. She is garbage and should be in jail.”
I think the Attorney General’s office answered that in so many extremely carefully chosen words that amounted to: she’s a nut case.
Any public airing of charges against her and presentation of evidence would have seemed like persecuting the mentally defective, no matter how despicable what she did was.
Well it looks like she has made a recovery and is not longer a nut case. The psychotherapy worked, she has written a book. long past time to prosecute her.
BTW - where in the law does it say that nut cases can’t be prosecuted? Somebody should tell that guy Hinckley.
She hasn't gotten sued before this because she didn't have enough money to make it worth going after her.
A suckess story about a colored girl who got off welfare by being a bathroom prostitute.
Obama picked a VP yet?
LOL
Pow! Scorch! </Wanda Dollard>
It helps to first read a book before you write one.
“BTW - where in the law does it say that nut cases cant be prosecuted?”
We do have the “innocent by reason of insanity” idea in our laws. But I think the real reason is that the woman exhibited enough deranged and disoriented behavior during this episode that the AG’s office didn’t want the spectacle of prosecuting a near hapless black woman, with all the attention that would have drawn from the race hustlers and self-hating white libs in the media.
She richly deserved to be sent to prison, but those who had contact with her and were familiar with her behavior and various statements during the hoax decided against prosecution.
Yeah, but you beat me by about an hour! I are a slow reader.
But, It's the seriousness of the charge we are talking about here.
Facts don't matter.
She can’t be VP; she’s only 29.
But look for her as a possibility in 2016. Or as a health official in the Obama adinistration. Sort of like Jocelyn Elders without the advanced degree. Actually, she could be Surgeon General pretty easily, once some Womyn’s Studies program gives her an honorary MD.
