When everybody was celebrating Heller, I was urging caution, telling everyone that we did not win anything significant. Future courts could limit our 'right' to be exercised only in the home as everywhere else will be deemed off-limits and anything other than handguns too dangerous.
While Lucas is a lib, remember the words of Yoda admonishing Obi-Wan when Obi-Wan called their battle against the droids a 'victory'?
Yoda said: "Victory, you say? Master Obi-Wan.....not victory. The shroud of the Dark Side has fallen. Begun the Clone War has."
So it is with the Second Amendment. We won a single battle by a 5-4 vote. The war could easily be lost.
Scalia has a strong authoritarian streak. I'm not among the FReepers who hold him in high regard. Heller would have been a far better decision if Thomas had authored it. It would have been about half a page, with "What part of 'shall not be infringed' do you not understand?" as the centerpiece.
This is exactly what Second Amendment Sisters is concentrating on with our members. The war has just begun. We may have won a small battle in that war, but we must remain ever vigilant and work to knock down every new gun-grabber law that shows up.
This is the approach that Second Amendment Sisters is taking with our members. We have won a major battle, but the war is just beginning. There will be many battles to follow, and we must prepare ourselves for knocking back each new law that infringes on our rights. DC V Heller gave us a start--but that's all it is, a start.
