Weakness invites attack not confrontation.

"Russia will never initiate nuclear warfare. IMHO, those in power have too much new energy based wealth to risk the consequences of a first strike."

I tend to believe that's true. Russia won't do it, but Al Qaida will, when Russia secretly let's them have a warhead or two. They'll just say some rogue nuke scientists or military kooks stole one from the their arsenal or helped al Q develop one. Do you think the America will retaliate then?

So we'll just ignore our treaty obligations in NATO?

NATO should be disbanded. It no longer serves any strategic or practical use.

As far back as 1991, the U.S. began to retire all of its nuclear warheads for short-range ballistic missiles, artillery and antisubmarine warfare.

Who was president back then?

Still doesnt mean I think its worth losing US interests over any of those places.

I feel the same way about Dallas/Ft. Worth and Houston. But that's just me.

I happen to like Houston.
And the people who live in Houston are (mostly) American citizens. Theyre also American taxpayers.
Theres a difference between them, and people living in Gdansk.

Nope. Won’t work that way. US has made its policy clear, through front and back channels, that ‘’rouge element’’ (false flag) attacks will be responded to in MAD style response (but not likely full commitment, IMO). The ‘’Sum of All Fears’’ style attack scenario, detection, and response is valid. Too stupid a risk for sponsoring states. Accidental or negligent parties WILL still pay for such. unfortunate and scary, none-the-less but good policy. Isreal has a similar, but even less restrained issuance which will get us attacked in retaliation from their policies. Proliferation sucks.

Regardless of what means something to you and what doesnt (and that means nothing to me), theyre Americans and your precious Poles arent. They pay tax, and people in Poland dont, not for the defense umbrella they get for free by signing up with NATO.

Oh, Uncle Sams got a deep wallet, but I beyond Poland being a convenient place to base our missile defenses, I see no reason why we should go out of our way to help them. Theyre getting more than enough value out of the free protection they already get from us. Along with the rest of NATO.

The only benefit of Poland being in NATO that I see is, Russia isnt there anymore, and If the missiles start flying, better they stop in Poland than in Baltimore.

Welfare cheats don’t pay taxes. But it really comes down to me seeing things just the way you do. Russia just may be planning on putting some nuclear tipped missiles in Cuba and/or Venezuela. Most likely they will be medium range missiles soooo Houston will be in range but northern Colorado will not. Now why would I want to risk blood, money or effort to help Houston? Why would I want to antagonize the Russians by standing up for you? It’s just not worth it. I’m too comfortable here.

The Soviets used “hearts and minds” very successfully many times all over the world, most notably in the Peacenik 60s Vietnam era in America and all over Western Europe, especially in the BRD (West Germany), during the Cold War. Young Germans believed that there were two superpowers: the evil USA, and the benign USSR. Socialism and the Greens were glorified. I was there at the time. Only Reagan set them straight. They all laughed at him and admired Gorby UNTIL THE WALL CAME DOWN.

Many young people in the USA today have skulls of mush and definitely believe in their “alternative truths,” you know, Cheney is the devil and all. They are probably easier targets today than the hippies of the 60s were.

It’s not just Medvedev who outright called him a lunitic — any fool who levels a town that have Russian peacekeepers in it (knowing full well the Russians are near the border just looking for an excuse to move in) is not only a lunitic — he deserves a Darwin Award.

We can absorb a Russian first strike, then wipe them out. Of course, it’s better if we hit Russia with our first strike.==

In this case the ABM in Poland will make the great help to fend of the weakered russian answer, am I right? So Russia has the legitimate concern over ABM in Poland.
