Washington, D.C. (August 20, 2008) The Republican Jewish Coalition (RJC) today called on Sen. Barack Obama and the Democratic Party leadership to remove former President Jimmy Carter from the program at the Democratic National Convention. Yesterday it was announced that Carter is scheduled to speak at the Convention in Denver on Monday, August 25, 2008.
Through the years, President Carter has consistently demonstrated by his statements and actions a troubling anti-Israel bias. In April 2008, despite strong protests by Israeli leaders, the U.S. State Department and several Democratic leaders, Carter met with Hamas leader Khaled Meshal in Syria.
In an August 2006 interview with Der Spiegel, Carter ignored Israels right to defend its citizens and borders. Instead, Carter claimed Israels attack was unjustified and that Israel looks upon this as a justification for an attack on the civilian population of Lebanon and Gaza. In 2006, Carter also published an error-filled, egregiously biased book entitled Palestine: Peace not Apartheid. Carter said publicly that Israeli treatment of Palestinians is one of the greatest human rights crimes on earth.
Jimmy Carters long history of anti-Israel bias has rendered him unfit to address the Democratic Convention. It is incumbent upon the Democratic Party leadership and Senator Obama to remove Carter from the program in Denver. The Democratic Party and Senator Obamas continued embrace of Carter and his anti-Israel bias sends a troubling message to the Jewish community. It stands in stark contrast to the GOP and John McCains pro-Israel stance, said RJC Executive Director Matt Brooks.
Additionally, Senator Obama should reject Carters superdelegate vote. The hand that shook Khaled Meshals should not be allowed to rise in support of Senator Obamas candidacy for president.
Peanuts ain’t kosher
With support from the Palestinians of Obama’s campaign, continual anti-semitic posts on his website, and now Carter speaking at the Dem convention, I don’t know how any self-respecting Jew could possibly vote Dem. Nuts.
Please let McCain pick Cantor...
DNC: stuck on stupid.
What percentage of the Jewish vote will be Democratic?
Memo to RJC; Save your breath.
Ahaha - good point. Maybe Jimmah will be his running mate ;)
Obama is in really deep doo-doo now.
On Saturday he lost the protestant churchgoer vote with his abyssmal performance at the Rick Warren Forum. Relatively speaking that was a so-so loss since most regular churchgoers vote Republican.
However, to now have the Jewish community at his throat this is big time. The Jewish Community is the third leg of the Democratic stool.
It is not surprising to see the Jewish community express its anger at Jimmy Carter and his hatred of Israel.
The Jewish Community refused to support Jimmy Carter in 1980 and Jimmy has held a grudge against them ever since.
Now, the Jewish Community is saying in no uncertain terms that Obama is not going to be supported by them.
Jewish votes for Democrat presidential candidates they trust are in the 80% range.
This is a big hit for Obama.
ping for you.
I want JC to speak the more he opens his mouth the better for Republicans, then maybe the Jewish voting block finally will see how anti-semitic dems are.
that’s funny!
i saw an old friend of mine. she’s retired.
she’s jewish, and for hillary.
she chastised me for being a guy and not liking hillary. i didn’t respond. she’s older and i let her treat me like mom.
i asked her who she’s voting for.
obama she answered.
i asked her what about israel? no response.
same ol’, same ol’.
“76% for Kerry” - that’s progress. Before Reagan, then 9/11, the “Jewish vote” was as reliably Dem as the “Black vote,” at 90%.
“What percentage of the Jewish vote will be Democratic?”
Two points, votes and money.
1. It’s not so much the gross % (which is 1-2%), but: (a) where Jewish voters are (swing states, in much higher concentrations) and (b) we vote, making a vote pulled from Obama being a 2 vote swing.
2. Money. I bet 1/3 of Dhim money comes from Jewish voters. Denting that could have huge effects.
If I were a Democrat, I wouldn’t want to draw attention to Jimmy Carter.
Why in the world would the Republican Jewish Coalition want Obama to remove former President Jimmy Carter from the program? It is none of their business. Jimmy Carter is a Democrat. It is the Democratic Convention. Let the Democrats do whatever they want to do. My word!
Democrats could care less about a Republican group, even if they are Jews. According to these folks, “JINO” with the R. ‘Nuff said.
By all means let Carter speak. Let him rant on about the “evil Jews”. Also let Michael Moore, Noam Chomsky, Howard Zinn, and whole bunch of leftist wackos on the podium. Let them rant for the duration of the convention.
