As NewsBusters editor Matthew Sheffield recently wrote, the John Edwards scandal demonstrates why the public is moving to the web for news. A big reason for the public relying more and more on the web for news is that the blogosphere is willing to do the investigative footwork that the mainstream media often neglects. A perfect illustration of this are the revelations made today by the DBKP blog about the suspicious aircraft leasing arrangements made by John Edwards' moneyman, Fred Baron:

Here's my fun quote of the man:
One evening in October, when I was one-third sober,
An' taking home a load' with manly pride;
My poor feet began to stutter, so I lay down in the gutter,
And a pig came up an' lay down by my side;
Then we sang It's all fair weather when good fellows get together,'
Till a lady passing by was heard to say:
You can tell a man who "boozes" by the company he chooses'
And the pig got up and slowly walked away.
"The Pig Got Up and Slowly Walked Away", 1933 song by Benjamin Hapgood Burt
And this too: "the blogosphere is willing to do the investigative footwork that the mainstream media often neglects."
In the chaos of cyberspace, truth rises to the top.
In the heavily controlled Propaganda Machine that is the Mainstream Newsmedia, truth is hidden behind all the obfuscation, distortion, censorship, misinformation, and mendacity.
There is a normal human thirst for truth. The blogosphere satisfies it. The Propaganda Machine does not.
The story has been told.
Edwards is a first-class jerk. The whole world knows it.
I’ve heard all I want to hear.
Enough.
Except that Fred Baron now works as a moneyman for the Obama campaign.
Then he’s the one to go after. Fair game.
Slight correction: the MSM (D)
Yikes!

Jedidah,
You made have heard all you want to hear, but these are potential violations of law by Edwards. If he misused campaign funds, he needs to be held accountable and repay those donors.
And that's the way it is...
What a movie this story would make. The presidential candidate has a baby with his mistress in the middle of his campaign. The secret meetings, the hidden transfers from one love nest to another....
Except the National Enquirer was there to record it all...
“Except that Fred Baron now works as a moneyman for the Obama campaign.”
This guy really needs to be investigated. There is a lot of corruption hidden in this story, and the msm just wants to label it “a private matter about sex” as they did with Bill Clinton.
We should not let them get away with this one.
And they keep saying that there is more news to come from the scandal. Consider how close he became to being our VP. Shudders.
If Edwards were a Republican, Michael Moore or Oliver Stone would already be writing the screenplay for their movie. I read that there have been rumors about Edwards and other women. If so, maybe they'll come forward and tell their story for a big fee in the National Enquirer.
