The point at which the dems lost touch with reality was when they nominated Adlai Stevenson to run against Ike.

Carter, who professed surprise at communist evil when the Soviets invaded Afghanistan, was one of the two Democrats to win the White House since 1968. The other was Clinton, the draft dodger who travelled to Moscow during the Vietnam War. Obama, whose pastor openly damned America, will be the Democrats' nominee this year.A pacifist... a rapist and a communist

....I’m old enough to remember when the Dems were pro-American, pro-capitalism and pro-military....hell, I used to be a Dem...the author is right....the dems went Left in ‘68 and have only gone harder Left since....and their cheerleaders in this have been the Media/Hollywood/the Academy.

I'm convinced that the only reason the Left didn't protest World War II was because Hitler invaded their hero-nation, the Soviet Union. If you look at American History, the unity our nation had in WW II was an abberation, not the norm. The Revolution had as many Loyalists as Patriots. The Civil War had Copperheads trying to destroy America with the North, while the Rebels tried to destroy America in the south, WW I had Bolshevist agitators, and we all know what happened in Vietnam and today in Iraq (although I'm pretty sure the bedwetters would be protesting Afghanistan if they thought they'd get the chance).
Too bad the Democrat Party has become infested with these twinkletoes...America needs two viable political parties.

I agree that the reason the Left didn’t protest World War II was because Hitler invaded their hero-nation, the Soviet Union but also of note is that the POTUS, FDR, was not a Republican. If only the Democrat Party would be finished off in this election, they are one with all of the enemies of this country!

Replace every Dem-agogue-ocrat with a Libertarian.
Having a 50-50 split between Republicans and Libertarians would result in an upward spiral of competition, with actual improvements (as opposed to the current setup of leftwing socialists vying for as much control and dependence as they can force upon us, and slightly-less-left, slightly-less-socialist “me-too”ers offering watered down versions of the same).

Incredibly, a political party largely reconstructed around the notion that its own nation is evil and its own citizens are dupes or worse, has survived and thrived in America. Its party leaders more or less openly root for the defeat of American soldiers in war. Its party bigwigs hobnob with America-haters like Michael Moore at national conventions. Its party faithful, according to public opinion polls, listen seriously to arguments that the American government planned war upon its own people. Great article. Love the paragraph above. Thanks for posting.

Danged good article. And true.
I could have written my own "The Tin Drum". I was in CA. It was akin to being "invaded" and "occupied" in 1968. What went down in Chicago in 1968; instantly arose in CA. Specifically around the SF area. I saw the "before" and "after".
There should be two political parties, both committed to the American Dream, both in love with their nation, both proud to defend her. Instead, one party has accepted the lies told about America on the streets of Chicago in 1968. Too rich, too powerful, too confident, too comfortable -- this is what the rioters in Chicago thought of America then; this is what the heart of the Democratic Party thinks now, forty years after their political party died.
It's what they wished for at onset of their "uprising". Death. They, philosophically, bargained their own suicide pact.

When people sense the sickness of American politics and government, what they sense is something missing for forty years from our national dialog: Sincere and patriotic partisan debate. There should be two political parties, both committed to the American Dream, both in love with their nation, both proud to defend her. Unfortunately there is only one such party, and at times its leaders seem all too intent on making it into a branch of the Democratic Party.

...the dems went Left in 68 and have only gone harder Left since A whole bunch of things happened in '68, with Leftist agitators being especially active worldwide.
I wonder to what extent the Czechoslovakian "Prague Spring" in January 1968 convinced the Kremlin to go all out in financing Leftist takeovers worldwide

I’m old enough too, and what I specifically rmember was the deliberate and well funded Communist infiltration of the basically idealistic “causes” that engaged the young at that time.
The idealism had been a leftover frow WWII; we had been on the side of the angels, had defeated evil and the ext generation wanted to find ad fix veil too.
The Civil Rights movement (where I was active at the time) was just that, and it got severely damages from within by these infiltrators, who seemed to have access to whatever funds they needed to help a project along.
