Carl Yastrzemski has had successful triple bypass surgery Tony Massarotti By Tony Massarotti Tuesday, August 19, 2008 -
Longtime Red Sox [team stats] great Carl Yastrzemski has undergone successful triple bypass surgery and is now in recovery at Mass General Hospital, Yaz spokesman Dick Gordon confirmed a short time ago.
According to Gordon, Yastrzemski actually was brought to Mass General yesterday after complaining of tightness and pains in his chest. The Hall of Fame left fielder underwent an array of tests before it was determined that he needed surgery, which took place early tonight at the hospital. The procedure took slightly more than two hours, Gordon said.
Everythings fine. He had a triple bypass and hes fine, Gordon said at roughly 8:15 p.m.. Hes in recovery right now. His family is most grateful for all the prayers and support theyve received.
*He didnt have a heart attack, Gordon said. He came here yesterday, and after some tests and some evaluations, it was determined he needed bypass surgery.
According to Gordon, the initial belief was that Yastrzemski had four blocked arteries and that he would need quadruple bypass surgery. The process ended up being a triple bypass.
Gordon was uncertain as to how long Yastrzemski would be hospitalized. Yastrzemskis wife, three daughters and sons-in-law were all at the hospital during the procedure, Gordon said. The family was expected to visit with Yastrzemski a short time after 9 p.m.
Triple bypass for the triple crown winner. Best wishes for a full recovery.
God Bless and prayers going up for Yaz.
Prayers up for Yaz.
One of the problem is that some people have no signs of blockage -- for example, I had 99%, 90%, 80%, and 60-70% blockage.
An angiogram is about the only definite way to show blockage and the need for bypass surgery.
Supposedly Tim Russert had had a stress test just before he dropped dead of a heart attack.
One of the real health issues in the food is to avoid hydrogenated vegetable oil. Normally, vegetable oil is a good form of fat, but not as a hydrogenated oil.
Basically, a hydrogenated oil is one that is solid and not liquid, and it really clogs up the veins and arteries...
Car Yazstremski.... the Man we call “YAZ”..
We love HIM!
DUH!.. PIMF!
That would be CARL if I coud type..
The Hero of ‘67!
Way to go Yaz, keep fighting! Sox will repeat in ‘08.
When I was a kid, I saw Yaz play a number of times at old Griffith Stadium in D. C. I don’t remember if I saw him play at D. C. Stadium, which replaced Griffith (and later was named Robert F. Kennedy Stadium, or RFK for short), but I think so. It depends on when he retired and when the Senators moved from Griffiths.
Glad to hear you're well. You're right about it being much safer now. My Dad died during bypass back in 1972. It was still something of a novelty then.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery for Yaz. One of my all-time favorites.
Great to hear. Only got to see him in the latter half of his career.
Go Carl!
We’re pulling for you.
Prayers up.

Yaz came to my house when I has a JR in H.S. I lived in Delray Beach at the time. Really great memory.
Glad to hear it was successful! I grew up idolizing Yaz. He was a great ballplayer who gave me many great memories.
