He went to Harvard Law School, but he “taught” at some law school in Illinois, I think.

Either way, a Harvard Law Graduate should be able to answer a legal rights question without blinking. Even if it isn’t agreed with, he should still be able to form an opinion.
You are correct. According to the NYT he was offered a tenured professorship at the University of Chicago (based on NO published articles, quite amazing actually) but he turned it down to pursue politics.
