Unless I’ve missed something, heterosexual sexual behavior spreads a number of diseases as well. How do we deal with the question of maintaining the “healthy society” you refer to? Plus the problem of unwanted pregnancies?
My monogamous friends, gay and straight, seem to be quite healthy.

We used to have less of a problem with unwanted pregnancies when we had an unwritten taboo against sex outside of marriage. That went by the wayside some 40 years ago, so we get the logical consequences of our behavior (more unwanted pregnancies, disease, marital break up, etc.). Taboos are far more effective than technology can ever be in this regard.
This is from Wikipedia under Safe Sex. It applies to anyone practicing anal sex.
Dangers of anal sex
“Unprotected anal sex is a high risk activity regardless of sexual orientation...
Anal sex is more risky than vaginal, since being very thin tissues of anus and rectum can be easily damaged during such sex activities as anal intercourse or use of anal toys. Even slight injuries can become “open gates” for various bacteria and viruses, including HIV.”

When my brother-in-law did his ER rotation he would entertain us with descriptions of the diverse assortment of foreign objects that had to be surgically retrieved from the rectums of gay men

My ex-sister-in-law worked in an ER. One Saturday night they had to take a large Skippy peanut butter jar out of some guy.
Yeah, I know, its just one of the complexities of their lives I gotta understand...”

No, I don’t hate people who behave like this. I’ve made a zillion mistakes in my life, but I also don’t participate in Mistake Pride parades or demand respect for my mistakes.
