But I often find that libertarianism exists in a kind of moral vacuum, such as in the clarification you presented.
To hold this position means that you must divorce the reality of prostitution - that it is far more often coercive, rather than consensual - and transform it into a kind of idealized economic transaction between consenting adults, and nothing more. As though prostitution were no different - ethically and emotionally - than selling and buying widgets.
Again, I think libertarianism makes room for prostitution only to the extent that it is, in fact, consensual. Perhaps most social conservatives and most libertarians disagree on what "consensual" means. That would probably make a good thread on its own.
I see where you would get the idea that libertarianism does not take into account the emotional and ethical realities of vice. That may be true for some libertarians, but not all, and not for the political philosophy as a whole. It's not that libertarians fail to recognize these realities, it's just that they generally don't believe those realities are sufficient to justify government intervention.
One can distinguish between putting up a campaign sign and giving a speech in favor of racial segregation, but still view both as forms of speech that should not be censored. A person holding that view isn't necessarily racist or blind to the historical injustice that racial segregation represents. Nor do they necessarily view bland electioneering as equivalent to advocating racist policies. They may simply believe the state should not be shutting down speech on the basis of emotional hurt, unpopularity, or the historical record.
Probably back when the mayor was issuing Marriage licenses for gays, despite orders not to. Still in office, tho he did finally desist.
