Saddleback Civil Forum on the Presidency (FULL TRANSCRIPT of Obama and McCain interviews)
Rick Warren News ^ | Aug. 17, 2008 | Rick Warren, Barack Obama, John McCain

Posted on 08/17/2008 4:31:11 PM PDT by FocusNexus

The two-hour event, attended by nearly 5,000 church members in the main auditorium and remote overflow venues, began with Warren posing questions first to Sen. Obama, as determined by a coin toss, after which the two candidates met on stage and embraced in one of their last appearances prior to their respective conventions. The second half of the program featured the same questions directed to Sen. McCain by Warren, who stressed that the candidate had been placed "under a cone of silence" prior to his turn on stage.

Warren organized his thoughtful, yet hard-hitting line of inquiry into four categories, including Stewardship, Leadership, Worldview and America's Role in the World. The questions covered a wide range of topics, ranging from the candidates' values, vision and virtues as applied to many of the critical issues of interest to the faith community and general public, including a discussion on abortion, traditional marriage, stem cell research, education, religious persecution, world orphans, the theory of evil in the world, and their vision for the future of America - at home and abroad.

Even after Obama’s nuanced performance in “Saddlesore” on Saturday night, I think it’s fair to say that the democrats can color (colour) him gone. However, I don’t think they have that one in their big box of Crayolas!

Just curious, and maybe this has been mentioned.....Was the audience the same for Obama that it was for McCain? I mean, I wonder if they changed audiences between the two. Reason I ask is when Obama was asked the question about Supreme Court justices and he mentioned not liking Thomas, the audience applauded. Also I think when asked about the abortion issue he also got applause. Seemed a little strange to me considering it was an evangelical gathering.

You have nailed it. The far left has followed the communist doctrine to a T. Divide and conquer. Throw out every American value held for centuries, and; continue to divide and divide.

They want it now. They sit on their ass, they do not own a shovel, they fire up a joint, and they want their bennies right now. Sad.

The audience was positively the same. I agree that it is strange that an evangelical audience would applaud the key lines you mentioned, but a fraction of them could have been Obama supporters, who clapped for Obama, then there were more McCain supporters who clapped his statements.

Thanks FN for your reply. Yeh, I just thought it was a little strange, but must admit I didn’t watch the Obama portion that much so not sure how much applause he got. I must admit I was a little wary of the whole thing and how McCain would do, but was just tickled how he handled himself and the audience’s reaction.

Only have a sec, Lumper, but wanted to say so many thanks for your response.

Some still “GET IT” and I think more, in these so uncertain days, are wiping the sleep from the corners and opening their eyes to the truth.

Could just be me, but I believe the tide is turning in our favor. What say you?

Oh, LORD, let it be, and a big Amen!

Yours Truly,

Birmingham Rain

Hussein was keeping the ear with the mic in it away from the cameras. His “um, er, uh, hum” was a stall until his handlers could give him answers to Warren’s questions.
P.S. His VP choice will rely heavily on candidate’s extemporaneous speaking ability. It will enable Hussein to hand over subjects not on a teleprompter to his VP.
