CCM Members, I and 2 other CCM members attended the Renewable Energy Task Force Meeting held by Congressman Nick Lampson, 22nd Congressional District. He focused the meeting on H. R. 6709 "National Conservation, Environmental, and Energy Independence Act that congress would like to take action on in September. It now has support from 119 members of congress and they hope to have 300 supporters by the time it comes to a vote.
There were 28 attendees at the meeting in addition to Lampson and two of his staff. I am guessing that about 6 of the attendees were members of the task force. Each of the attendees were asked to identify themselves and their organizations. Each also added one or more comments related to energy.
Congressman Lampson recommended that each read the bill and sign a petition for its support. I did and urge each of you with a focus interest on development of a national energy policy to also read it. It is easy to search on the Internet using HR 6709 and at least read the summary.
There are many good proposals in it and one that concerns me a lot. It relates to selling of 10% of our strategic oil reserves and spending the money for existing conservation, energy research/development and energy assistance programs. They propose to spend $1.28 billion on those programs from the $1.4 billion they expect to realize from the sale.
As worthwhile as those programs are, it seems to me, that we need to be extremely cautious in any tampering with a major source of our strategic defense program. Once that oil is gone and the money spent, it is not easily replenished.
I recall that in WW2 one of the major turning points in our war with Germany was crippling their source and supply of oil. Tanks literally did not run. It also impacted on their factories and total economy. The current Georgia/Russian situation demonstrates how quickly things can turn and how it also impacts on the Georgia pipeline.
Can we get some action in opposition to the selling off of any part of our strategic oil reserves. Send e-mails and/or telephone calls to your representatives and their opponents in the coming elections, call in to talk shows, write the Houston Chronicle, and hit the blogs.
Thanks,
Patt Snyder

for a bowl of pottage....
With the events in Georgia, our oil reserves have just become more stategic, a fact I don’t expect Queen Botox to grasp.
Oh don’t worry, Shrieker Pelosi said she’s trying to save the planet, and of course we all know she will.
Selling 10 percent opens the door to selling the rest. Ask any parent who allows their kids to con them into using just “part” of what they had saved up in their piggy bank for something “reaaally reaaallllllly important”
That damn piggy bank will be empty before you can blink.
Our government is broken. We have a bunch of crooked politicians who don’t have one ounce of common sense. They’re all pandering liars. God help us.

Clinton already sold the Eld Hills Reserves in California near Bakersfield to Occidental Oil, which now has as a major stockholder.....(wait for it) AL GORE!!!!

It’s wonderful!
As soon as Pee-lousy returns to congress after selling another thousand of her books; after she begins to cave in on more drilling; she now has taken the wrong side of the Oil Reserve issue - just as Russia is trying to take control of a main pipeline linking Europe to oilfields.
It’s wonderful! I only wish that we could elect enough pubbies to congress, to force her to sit down and shut up, as the adults take over!
You are, dear friend, an opptomist.
This is why Pelosi is ready to support the bill.
