Mr. Hamdan, We're Ready For Your Closeup Aug. 17, 2008(CBS) Attorney Andrew Cohen analyzes legal issues for CBS News and CBSNews.com.Of course George Clooneys production company has just purchased the rights to a book written about Salim Hamdan, the most famous mechanic and driver in the history of the world.
The sensitive star knows a good story when he sees one, and Hamdans story (the final chapters of which have yet to be written) over the past six years surely ranks as one of the best of the decade.
Hamdan drove Osama bin Laden for a while (imaging having that passenger in the back seat looking over your shoulder), and two weeks ago the Yemeni national was convicted and sentenced for it.
The conduct and results of the trial now will be reviewed by our civilian courts in a process that could take years and yet another ruling from the United States Supreme Court. By that time, Hamdan could be free, or still in custody, or Lord knows what else.

Barack Obama’s Choice for Attorney General is also active in the protection of Saudi interests.
She is a wahhabist tool.
Do you mean the part where Hamdan tells the FBI agent that America could have killed Saddam during the ‘90s when he was masterminding the murders of Americans and local nationals all over the world?
The game is this
These are high priced corporate lawyers
Often they are defending or advocating for scum and they know it
To salve their consciences they do pro bono work for Al Qaeda in Guantanamo
Gives them bragging rights and lawyer type street credibility
Makes them the hit at cocktail parties
It’s all about inflating their lawyerly ego they, could give a s*** about our national security
Never in a million years would they allow these Al Qaeda to visit and stay in their house a few days
Actually, I was thinking more along the lines of how America has just given illegal combatants the best of the protections of both accused criminals and POWs.
I would focus on the Supreme Court discussions where Scalia would concentrate on how providing civil rights to pirates and terrorists is judicial activism of the worst kind.
That said, there is no particular evidence that this guy is a hardcore terrorist. He appears to be more of a Joe Schlub type.
