For a few hot hours Saturday afternoon, a sterile stretch of South Orange County suburbia transformed into a rowdy free speech zone outside Saddleback Church in Lake Forest.

Nearly 1,000 demonstrators from across the political spectrum descended on the megachurch for the forum with presidential candidates John McCain and Barack Obama.

""We want to hear that somebody thinks the integrity of the national boundaries is meaningful and necessary," said Britt Craig, 59, a Mission Viejo resident with the Campo Minutemen who spends four or five days a week patrolling the border. "I don't think we're going to hear it from either one of them."

“...a sterile stretch of South Orange County suburbia...”

It’s not pretty or gardenlike, but “sterile”. Guess to the Times, Orange county’s conservatism rates a neutral or lower moniker. Did anyone else get that negative vibe?

Antiwar protesters from Answer LA were the most raucous, their speakers blaring chants of "Obama, McCain, stop the war."

If they can't even make up a rhyme, their future as radical protestors appears dim. There might be movies about the Sixties, but the real thing just doesn't seem to be on the way back.

Sterile to the LA Times means no graffiti, no backyard farm animals in the streets, repaired pot holes, no food peddlers, left turn signals and free parking.

Funny, because McCain brought it up.

Yes, I picked up on that right away. Typical LA Times left wing garbage which is why this newspaper is a total financial loser. It can’t make it to bankruptcy court soon enough for me.

I have been to Saddleback for a funeral at which Pastor Rick Warren spoke. It is an amazing campus, and Rick is an amazing person. The area surrounding the church is rolling hills and mountains to the east and homes with many retail establishments in relatively new centers to the west, north and south. I lived in Orange County for 23 years. It is anything but sterile. On the other hand, LA is a pigsty surrounding a few nice communities such as Beverly Hills, Encino and some other hillside San Fernando Valley communities.

Just one more reason I am glad that I stopped both subscribing to and reading the Slimes quite a few years ago. This newspaper is not even worth reading for free over the Internet.
