Texas Authorities Seek Custody of Polygamist Sect's Children
Fox News / AP ^ | August 17, 2008

More than two months after being forced to return children from a polygamist sect to their parents, Texas child welfare authorities want eight youngsters put back in foster care.

Individual hearings for the four mothers of the children, who range in age from 5 to 17, are set to begin Monday.

Child Protective Services has asked a judge to return the children to foster care because their mothers have allegedly refused to limit their contact with men accused of being involved in underage marriages.

"We continue to have concerns in particular for these eight children, which is why we have asked the judge to review the case," said CPS spokeswoman Marleigh Meisner.

None of the children live at the Yearning For Zion Ranch in Eldorado, from where authorities took roughly 440 children into foster care in April. Officials said the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, which established the ranch, was forcing girls into underage marriages and grooming boys to be adult abusers.

The Texas Supreme Court forced CPS to return the children to their parents six weeks after they were placed in foster care because the agency presented evidence of no more than a handful of teenage girls being abused. Many of the children taken into CPS custody were infants and toddlers.

Sounds like the other way around. Those women know the law.

In your discussions with them did any of them object to Texas enforcing its laws?

Who are these FLDS people and what do they believe?

It's alleged that they still practice polygamy and 'marry' underage girls off to much older men.

They still happen to quaintly believe that they have Constitutional rights.

The brainwashed "mothers" refuse to keep the men who are suspected of being in marriages with underage girls away from their children.

I thought there were certain conditions that the mothers agreed to in order to regain custody of these kids.

Right, AIW and Ucansee?

What law was broken? They are pushing to seize the children based on contact with people “accused” of being involved in under-age marriages.

Aren’t there some parents out there teaching their kids how to shoplift and fighting over the best gang for their little one to join? Leave these people alone! What an inane abuse of power and a completely retarded waste of taxpayer resources.

Intervene with the kids who none of us want to grow up and be our neighbor. That’s not the case here. Are there honestly not higher priority cases for these guys to deal with? If not then disband this agency. This went too far a long long time ago.

Who should get the benefit of the doubt on this one? CPS or whatever they are called has no credibility anymore.

Come up with hard evidence of crimes and then remove the children and prosecute the perpetrators. Short of that there is no rational reason to trust CPS’ judgement and over 400 reasons not to.

They are under a court order they asked for.

Now, regarding all those people you know who are teaching their kids how to steal, can we have some names please?

They are also ending court oversight of 34 children as of Friday.

Court lets CPS end oversight of 34 FLDS children

AUSTIN — A West Texas judge on Friday agreed to end court oversight of 34 children from a polyamist group.

Child Protective Services indicated last week that it would no longer pursue legal action against the parents of 34 children because the agency felt they were not in immediate danger. On Friday, State District Judge Barbara Walther agreed to the motion, without comment.

Friday’s court action doesn’t mean CPS ends its involvement with the 10 families of the 34 children, all members of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, a group that allegedly practices underage marriage.

I don’t know them but you hear cases all the time.

My point is this: if you were to rank all the children being raised in this country on decency, what percentile would you place these kids? I would rate them pretty highly.

These people have some wacked views, but they are trying to raise their children with values and morality that is probably way beyond the norm for our society. At a minimum surely there are bigger fish to fry.

Are you worried about any of these kids growing up and knocking over liquer stores?

I wish the cps would care as much for physically abused kids, and kids living in housing projects. They usually give them back to the abusers.

What the generally-liberal CPS folks hate is the patriarchical nature of all this.

In cities across America, adult men commonly have sex with minors and make them pregnant. They do not usually marry them, though, so there is no spectre of continued subjugation of the young mothers to the will of the one man, so it is not so offensive to their feminist sensibilities. CPS does not take the babies away from the mothers and prosecute the fathers in large numbers.

No. It is the patriarchical nature of this phenomenon that bothers the CPS folks.

I know, shouldn’t they be spending more time in gang ridden neighborhoods?

In my view even the crime that they are being accused of is dubious. The only reason 17 year olds aren’t adults in our society is because we infantalize them. See:

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=the+myth+of+adolescence

None the less it’s against the law, but if that’s the case then show evidence and take appropriate action. Still having people getting married younger then the law allows is worlds different then running some kind of pedophile ring yet it seems to be treated the same. And they haven’t even shown that that much is happening with any of the people they are herassing.

Let’s use our limited resources getting inner city kids on the right track and once that’s done maybe we can then reconsider the threat that the “Yearning for Zion” ranch is posing to society.

Pedophilia, pedophilia, pedophilia.

It's that simple.
