Lincoln and Churchill initially suffered military defeat after military defeat and, by being Great Communicators, kept up the morale of the Home Front until final Victory. ..... George W. Bush, from the very beginning, was given spectacular military victories on a scale unprecedented in military history and, by an utter lack of an ability to communicate effectively, has allowed the morale of the Home Front to sink so low that the American Home Front might very well vote for a unilateral U.S. surrender next November in a war that, by any historical measure, has already been decisively won. .... Because of his inability to communicate as a effective leader should, History will rank George W. Bush as a mediocre leader, at best. .... Polybius

President Bush will go down in history very well. ..... Morgan in Denver

History looks at the bottom line and, as I wrote, the bottom line is that, in November, the war may very well be lost at the ballot box.

History will look back upon spectacular battlefield victories coupled with a Home Front so demoralized that, according to the current polls, approximately 50% of the voters are seriously considering voting for a man that has promised surrender.

That is a CATASTROPHIC failure of leadership in a war leader.

If the war is lost at the ballot box next November, Bush's inability to communicate and inspire the American Home Front will be remembered as one of the greatest failures in the history of war. If McCain wins, Bush will remembered as the man who tried to do the right thing but required another man to get the job done.

Up until late in 2006, Bush opposed the Surge that McCain was championing. The war should have been wrapped up long ago.

Bush said the first thing he wanted to do was bring dignity of the office of the presidency back to the White House. He did that.

Well, not having fellatio performed on you in the Oval Office should be considered a minimum requirement for Presidential decorum and not something to brag about. In the Dignity Department, Clinton was a very easy act to follow.

The initial war against terrorism, first in Afghanistan and then Iraq were spectacular accomplishments Bush will get credit for. Winning in Iraq, ......

"Winning in Iraq"?

You are completely missing the point.

The war is not yet "won". The war in Iraq may very well be LOST in November's Presidenbtial election because George W. Bush has allowed the morale of the America Home Front to sink lower than whale scat at the bottom of the ocean.

As I wrote:

"George W. Bush, from the very beginning, was given spectacular military victories on a scale unprecedented in military history and, by an utter lack of an ability to communicate effectively, has allowed the morale of the Home Front to sink so low that the American Home Front might very well vote for a unilateral U.S. surrender next November in a war that, by any historical measure, has already been decisively won."

In the end, what matters in History is not who wins or loses the battles but who, in the end, wins or loses the war.

The last thing we need in America is bragging rights about another war where we won every battle on the battlefield but lost the war at the Home Front.

I understand what you wrote and I understand your position.

I disagree with your prediction but history will determine which of us is correct. I’m comfortable waiting a few years to see what historians write.
