Ukraine is insisting the Russian military must leave Sebastopol when the lease on the base expires in 2017. The Russian navy has made it clear it may refuse to do so. That is known as an act of war. Bring Ukraine into NATO now and when its time for the lease to expire, bring in the U.S. Sixth Fleet and have Ukraine host a major NATO field exercise.
Then, if the Russians don't leave, board their ships with Marines.

This may sound good but NATO has been dying for years now. Most of Europe hates the US and it’s time to part ways. New alliances need to be formed. Poland and other former eastern bloc nations have taken firm stands and we should welcome them.

Comic Book solution, if there ever were one.... Right. Because the Russians respond so well to diplomacy. Perhaps a "pretty please" would work.

well be lucky to live through it. Yeah but we will live. They won't be so lucky.:-)
If you think appeasing them is the thing to do, you don't understand Russians.

“He instructed his security council to draw up new rules forcing Russia to apply up to 10 days in advance for permission for its fleet to move in and out of Ukraines territorial waters.”
Before the chain-jerked comments get out of hand, it is worth noting that without knowing exactly what the treaty (? is this a treaty?) regarding the port says, we have no idea if Ukraine is in fact entitled to take these measures. It may be that what Ukraine is doing is illegal, by their own treaty.
it is entirely possible Russia could use the port as headquarters for WWIII and not be in violation in any way.
Treaties trump feelings, and in fact trump laws. don’t think so? try nafta.

Turn off the Russian water and power at Sevastopol. See how long they last. The place will be far worse than Gitmo to live at.

When the hell did I say anything about appeasement? I’m the one here calling for the Ukraine to be admitted to NATO immediately. And I’m not so sure we’ll live. We still have to stand up to their aggression, but lucky doesn’t have much to do with nukes. Our missile defenses aren’t built to handle the numbers they can throw. I spent a lot of years in the business so I have personal knowledge of the field, if perhaps not completely current. Time to get VERY SERIOUS here.

Russia’s problem is to get the Black Sea Fleet out of Sevastopol, most of it will need to be towed. They are in very tough shape.
