A top Russian general said Friday that hosting a U.S. missile shield makes Poland a Kremlin military target, even as Moscow lowered its saber by agreeing to a cease-fire with the former Soviet republic of Georgia in their nations' weeklong war.
According to Russia's Interfax news agency, Gen. Anatoly Nogovitsyn said Poland's decision could even lead to a nuclear attack on the Kremlin's former Warsaw Pact ally. Russia's president also denounced the U.S.-Poland deal as an anti-Russia act, though he stopped short of threatening Warsaw.
"By hosting [U.S. anti-missile missiles], Poland is making itself a target. This is 100 percent," said Gen. Nogovitsyn, the Russian military's deputy chief of staff. "It becomes a target for attack. Such targets are destroyed as a first priority."
He added that Russia's military planning allows the use of nuclear weapons "against the allies of countries having nuclear weapons if they in some way help them," which he said would include helping with strategic-defense systems.

Any country in the world is a target of Russia if they choose to make them one.
Russia is country of thugs and criminals. They will do what they want.
We should have defeated them after Germany in WW2.

I agree. Russians don’t need excuses to kill.

Ok—lets get real. NATO really had no business offering membership to Georgia. If we were trying to antagonize Russia, this was certainly the way to do it. Much like have a communist regime in Nicaragua and Cuba has antogonized us. Given that Russia has nukes, it would be suicidal for us to land NATO troops in Georgia to defend it.
That being said, I think this whole thing will backfire on Russia. It already has caused Poland to sign on to Missile Defense. Of course, they have more b@lls than the rest of the EU. I think Russia is correct if it thinks it can intimidate the EU.
One last thing—if Russia was smart, it would be much more concerned with keeping a lid on the Muslims to its South and East—that is the real threat, not the US or EU to its West.
Hey Anatoly - go suck an egg
Oxymoron of the day.
Russia should be treated the same as Iran. Isolated terrorist nation with ambitions over all of Europe.
So do Gen. Nogovitsyn and Pooty Poot.
