Commenting on John McCain's remark that Tom Ridge's pro-choice position would not rule him out as a vice presidential running mate, conservative leader and strongly pro-lifer Phyllis Schlafly got straight to the point by bluntly telling Newsmax, "I think [McCain] would be making a mistake."
In a Newsmax report, McCain was quoted by The Weekly Standard as saying, I think that the pro-life position is one of the important aspects or fundamentals of the Republican Party. And also I feel that and Im not trying to equivocate here that Americans want us to work together. You know, Tom Ridge is one of the great leaders and he happens to be pro-choice. And I dont think that that would necessarily rule Tom Ridge out.

Yup. McCain won't pick Ridge or ilk anyway. He isn't that stupid and keen on defeat to pick this obvious loser ticket.
McCain is in winning mode now. Picking an abortionist would be his end.

I suspect that deep-down, McPain thinks his best chance is with a liberal running-mate. He saw how powerless conservatives were in the primaries against him. He should remember how Reagan’s “choice” of Senator Schweiker, who was prolife, did not help gain the nomination. So, PA is committed to Oprah’s Obama regardless.

All the more reason to write in “Joe American” come November! I will not compromise my Christian values one bit to join a bi-partisanship of good + evil.

I’ll chime in. If McCain were to choose a pro-choice running mate, it would demonstrate a terrible lack of perception of who conservatives are and where their heart is.
MCCAIN, YOUR SUPPORTERS ARE PRO-LIFE. DON’T LET US DOWN.
Speaking of McCain, I clicked on this link, as posted somewhere on FR, and it’s worth a looksee:

Won’t happen and I wonder if a liberal floated the idea. Watch the debate at Saddleback tonight to see if he addresses it. Hope there’s a live thread here.

If he picks Rommney, I won’t be with him. He needs to choose a solid conservative; not one who is a both ways.

Bullseye.
Just an observation: I simply don't like the media Ridge. Every time I've ever seen him I've instantly thought "Politician."
He just reeks of the oil that slick politicians have in such supply that the US would be energy independent if it could be gasified. That being said, I'll not vote for an candidate on any ticket in any capacity who is pro-abortion. I will consider a converted, former pro-choicer, but only after careful consideration.
