HOUSTON (Reuters) A Texas school district will let teachers bring guns to class this fall, the district's superintendent said on Friday, in what experts said appeared to be a first in the United States.
The board of the small rural Harrold Independent School District unanimously approved the plan and parents have not objected, said the district's superintendent, David Thweatt.
School experts backed Thweatt's claim that Harrold, a system of about 110 students 150 miles northwest of Fort Worth, may be the first to let teachers bring guns to the classroom.
Thweatt said it is a matter of safety.
"We have a lock-down situation, we have cameras, but the question we had to answer is, 'What if somebody gets in? What are we going to do?" he said. "It's just common sense."

nah. it was common sense before teachers were required to belong to leftist unions; before schools became indoctrination camps of leftist moles in the government.
Now it's just more abuse of authority by petty dictators waiting to happen.
Arm the citizens, not their government.

Except for the fact that it’s still the public school system.

Let’s just hope they don’t let the students, parents or other teachers know who is carrying and who isn’t. Otherwise, one of the main advantages of CONCEALED carry might be lost.
(In other words, if a crazed shooter knows that teacher A carries while teacher B doesn’t, it seems obvious as to which of the two classrooms will be attacked.)

Common sense is not common, and when it occurs it is a rare and beautiful thing.

That’s some damn good common sense.
Good job, Texas; let’s hope this starts a nice little firestorm throughout the rest of the state, then throughout the country.

One of the professors killed at VA Tech was a military vet, who had an office just above an attacked classroom. Upon hearing the commotion, he went downstairs to see what was going on, and he quickly was shot. Just imagine what he might have been able to do if armed.

...I seem to remember a school shooting in Mississippi where a teacher stopped it by running out to his truck and getting his gun.

When I was in High school, those of us from Wichita County knew that the teachers and just about everyone around Harrold were probably armed to the teeth. I guess now its legal. I had my butt beat more times than I wish to count at Punkin Center by Waggoner Cowboys. It was a Friday and Saturday night ritual. We'd go there, drink, get drunk, get into a fight, get beat up and go home. Punkin Center,Lindsay, Archer City, Pauls Valley, and Windthorst had the places that writers mention when referring to “Honky Tonks”.
