How can Georgia "invade" it's own territory... I suppose the same way we saw Great Britain as "invaders".

From their King George's point of view they didn't invade.
From ours, they did, having formally declared independence citing the King George's denial of the colonists' rights already established under British law. Read the Declaration of Independence. All those issues cited are not just the colonists "ideas" of what should be, they were citing where King George continued, after great appeal, violating existing British Law in regard to the colonies.
