The Gil the A.R.M. story cycle to be specific, although there are echos of it in most of Niven's other universes. Well worth a read (as are all the Known Space stories), if you can find any of it. I think it has been out of print for a while.

I remember Niven's A Gift From Earth

A probe from earth delivered organ cloning technology to colonists at Tau Ceti. It caused a revolt and overthrow of the tyrannical organ harvesting government there.

One of my personal favorites. That one is (I think) the only Known Space novel that references the Organ Banks. Most of the Gil the A.R.M. novellas deal with it at least tangentally, if not directly. These are collected (most recently) in Flatlander. I recall that there is an organ bank-related short story in the Known Space collection as well (the one about the guy sentenced to death for running a stop sign...the name of the story escapes me).

For the uninitiated, these stories are set in a near future where organ transplantation has become almost risk-free. Most diseases are thus easily cured, and people grow accustomed to living long, healthy lives. The unintended consequence of this is because there is always a shortage of young, healthy organs a supply must be created somehow. This is accomplished by sentencing all criminals to death.
