On July 23, NYC Mayor Bloomberg signed Executive Order 120, requiring every city agency that has direct interaction with customers to provide language assistance in Spanish, Chinese, Korean, Russian, Italian and French Creole. This order requires that every agency maintain a Language Access Coordinator to oversee the provision of oral and written translation. Yet again, we find government agencies being asked to learn the language of the immigrants, rather than asking immigrants to learn the language of our country. This seismic shift comes with an enormous cost, both for the provision of services and the loss of opportunity incurred by immigrants who feel one less reason to learn English. As an immigrant who settled in NYC from Chile, I always marveled at the city's legacy of successful assimilation. For more than 150 years, immigrants from all over the world came to America's melting pot, learned English and became part of the proud heritage. It would be a shame for Mayor Bloomberg's legacy to be the end of this proud tradition and turning the Big Apple into a place of a half dozen linguistically isolated communities. Finally, I find it quite ironic that this executive order comes at a time when both NYC and State are anticipating massive budget shortfalls. The multilingual executive order raises costs including the cost of ihibiting the learning of English and providing the crutch of permanent assistance to immigrants.

NYC Mayor Bloomberg = socialism
NYC Mayor Bloomberg = socialism
:::::::
NYC and San Freakcisco have basically become one giant socialist dung heap, the world’s largest outdoor insane asylums....
Bloomberg is a POS.
I wonder who’s running for mayor.
With all due respect to our fellow FReepers who live in NYC, this is just another reason to not live/work/own a business there.
Where did that quote come from?
As soon as I’m able to, I’m heading back up here to start my firearms collection.
If I’m still able to purchase them after the election.
What is the sales tax and income tax rate in NYC again? I know Bloomburg doesn’t care what it is because he’s a billionaire, so it doesn’t matter what kind of executive order he hacks off on.
Mayor Bloomberg is a symptom of the disease that is NYC.
You got to see this from the Liberals’ viewpoint: If Multiculturalism becomes the American way of life, everybody’s gonna friggin’ love us.
It came from Pat Buchanan’s best-selling book, “State of Emergency - The Third World Invasion and Conquest of America.” Let me say that I don’t agree with some of Pat’s political views but even his harshest critics admit that his book is very well researched and documented. I recommend it for anybody who wants a non-PC perspective on the illegal alien invasion of America.
Exactly right. He’s been a Democrat, a Republican and now an Independent. But he’s always been consistent: a Nanny State liberal who is more concerned with someone lighting up a cigarette than with the horrendous crimes being committed by the illegal alien thugs in his sanctuary city.
Any book I read I want to be non-PC. It’s the only way to read.
Right - “the world’s largest outdoor insane asylums” - and the inmates are running them!
I’ll second that! We get so inundated with PC, multicultural, and morally equivalent crap from the liberal MSM that we can forget there’s actually another side to their spin.
I used to live in the Garden State before I moved to the Sunshine State and had occasion to go into the city often. That was before Bloomberg but even then there was such a vast array of taxes, many “hidden,” that it was mind-boggling. I don’t recall what the sales and state income taxes are. I suppose I’ve psychologically suppressed such painful memories!
That’s very true. NYC is becoming a Third World city with a wealthy elite being serviced by an underclass, many of whom are illegal aliens. That’s why Bloomberg and his Sanctuary City colleagues love the illegals - they provide votes and an endless supply of labor to maintain the infrastructure of the city and wait on their tables at the Four Seasons.
Building “the Tower of Babel” in “Babylon on the Hudson”.
what happened to bringing a neighbor/friend to translate ?
Excellent metaphor!
