Intelligent people know this this to be true. But back then, it was “cool” to be investigated by the FBI and so you had everyone saying they were blacklisted. Maybe they even said that when they didn’t get a part and used as an excuse. Senator McCarthy stopped the communist takeover in our State Department back then, this is fact. But we have another one that is trying to run for President now, who is going to take on that task?
Good comments.
It rankles me when conservatives accept Leftist mythology as fact.
The mythology of “McCarthyism” (and the lesser known, but equally important Nixon HUAC invesigations-the real reason for the get-even circus of Watergate), is a liberal foundational pillar. Too many on the Right do not vociferously contest the Left’s rewriting of history.
McCarthy was too late. The important Pro Soviet members of the State Department were already washed out before he got started in 1950, including Alger Hiss and company.
Senator Joe McCarthy deserves much better than he's ever going to get from history. He recognized the threat and tried to do something about it. He got it on the radar. But in cold hard fact, Senator McCarthy's net contribution to the cause of anti-communism is mixed. The Commies played him like a violin. He outed a few Communists, but they were low-level "give'em-ups;" sacrificial pawns that the commies always kept around to distract commie-hunters.
The big game got away from Joe. The MSM was able to make it all about Joe, and not about what he was trying to do.
