TROY, Mich. (AP) -- A woman accused of having a paid sexual tryst with the husband of Michigan U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow has been sentenced to probation on a lesser charge.
Alycia Martin was sentenced Tuesday to six months probation. The 21-year-olds record will be expunged if she successfully completes her sentence.
Prosecutors dropped a prostitution charge against the Westland woman in June. She pleaded guilty to trespassing.
Investigators conducting surveillance Feb. 26 at a Troy hotel stopped then-46-year-old Thomas Athans. They say Stabenows husband acknowledged meeting Martin through the Internet and paying her $150 for sex.
Authorities didnt charge Athans.
Martin told the Detroit Free Press shes glad the case is behind her.

i did think he looked a bit younger but wonder if he would look as young without the rather obvious rug he is sporting.
That is the funniest thing I’ve read on FR in a week. LMAO!
leave it to you to laugh at that! ; )
Mr. Cow must live in Edward’s America.

Thomas Athans, the husband of U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow and cofounder of a liberal talk radio network, told Troy police detectives that he paid a prostitute $150 for sex at a Troy hotel in late February, according to a police report obtained Wednesday by the Free Press under the Freedom of Information Act. Athans, 46, was not arrested or charged, but agreed to fully cooperate with police in their investigation of Internet-based prostitution at hotels in the city, according to the report. Athans was pulled over by police on I-75 minutes after leaving the Residence Inn on Livernois, just east of I-75 and south of Big Beaver, the evening of Feb. 26. He was driving a Cadillac DeVille registered jointly to him and Stabenow at their address in Lansing. He was ticketed for driving on a suspended license. When questioned during the stop, he acknowledged he had been at the hotel with a woman he met on the Internet. On further questioning, he acknowledged he had paid the woman $150 for oral sex.
She just has a receding hairline.
okay she’s 58, he’s 46, there is a big age diff, but he is no prize AND an adulterous lout to boot. they probably deserve each other.
he is the second mr stabenow, she married him in 2003, he knew what he was marrying 5 years ago, not like she went to pot overnight or anything!
Sorry, but the judgement in the message was “INNOCENT” based purely on her looks, and I was responding to that.
I have not made any judgement of her as a human being, she could be a saint for all I know or care.
I bear her no ill will, and I have no doubt she’ll be able to meet Mr right for her someday.
IIRC he agreed to testify. Also, sentences for this tend to be light just about everywhere.
I’m amazed you know about bukkake.
...”could land a C130 on that forehead.”
A keeper...
well clearly i learned what it was on FR, which “enriches” my life immeasurably on things i would never have heard of otherwise!
see http://www.alyciamartin.blogspot.com/ for her transformation, it’s remarkable!
My apologies, I misunderstood you.
From L to R.
Guilty.
Not Guilty.
If you would like to be added or dropped from the Michigan ping list, please freepmail me.
Why is it that we have laws? Seriously, what's the point???
I’m sorry, but clearly not guilty.
Thanks for posting the link to her blogspot. Hooray Alycia Martin for trying to turn your life around! Thanks to all of her supporters, family, friends and attorney and his wife...who are trying to help her.
Tom Athans should’ve known better, but I hope that he can turn his life around, also.
Great question, grellis. It sure seems like selective enforcement of laws. Too much discretion given in plea bargaining & sentencing.
Thanks for all of your pings.
