;) I would like to see English only. The trouble is, so few adults understand that it’s = it is and that noun+apostrophe+s is possessive, not plural.
Other malapropisms -
hugh does not mean huge. Although Hugh could be huge.
use to, instead of used to
suppose to, instead of supposed to
inappropriate use of I instead of me. “He gave something to me.” But I hear “He gave something to Steven and I”.
???
It would be very good if English grammar were taught in elementary and secondary schools.
One of Sen. John Kerry's celebrity supporters is ready to pull out all the stops to get him elected. Republicans are shrieking over a suggestion by rocker Moby that Democrats spread gossip about President Bush on the Internet. "No one's talking about how to keep the other side home on Election Day," Moby tells us. "It's a lot easier than you think and it doesn't cost that much. This election can be won by 200,000 votes." Moby suggests that it's possible to seed doubt among Bush's far-right supporters on the Web."You target his natural constituencies," says the Grammy-nominated techno-wizard. "For example, you can go on all the pro-life chat rooms and say you're an outraged right-wing voter and that you know that George Bush drove an ex-girlfriend to an abortion clinic and paid for her to get an abortion.
"Then you go to an anti-immigration Web site chat room and ask, 'What's all this about George Bush proposing amnesty for illegal aliens?'"
Moby didn't claim that he believed the abortion story...
However, SCOTUS Decisions have Dictated that all PEOPLE in the United States, including illegal aliens, be granted rights under the Constitution and Bill of Rights.
Thus the question would be does a person that holds the Right to be Educated in Public Schools have the right to be spoken to in Spanish while in the classroom. Or does an Illegal Alien that has 4th and 5th Amendment Rights also have the right to communicate with law officers in Spanish?
The Equal Protection Clause may come into play with these questions.
Rights under the Constitution do not mean that they are entitled to an interpreter.
I do not know of a clause in the Constitution or any of the Amendments that mandates that US taxpayers pay for translations.
All I said was the the SCOTUS may view the Equal Protection Clause as reason to block an attempt to have English as the Official Language of the United States.
The cited the Equal Protection Clause in Plyler when dictating that states educate illegal aliens in public schools.
Defeatist is the wrong term. Am I a defeatist if I think I’ll probably lose the next time I buy a lotto ticket?
Besides my congressman is Luis Gutierrez.
I hate to tell you this but McAmnesty is against this also.
He is? Why???
Yes, you are correct, I did the research and found that.
