I agree, culture should never override morality.

But morality is based on protecting the rights of the individual. Animals aren’t sentient being and therefore have no rights, they’re property to do with as we please.

It strikes me as blatant hypocrisy that we have no problem killing a billion chickens a year to eat but flip out when a few die from cockfighting. We have no problem with the former precisely because of what I mentioned but why do some people insist on using a completely new and disjointed morality when it comes to cockers?

Abuse a kitten or a puppy in front of a police officer or in front of the police station and see what happens. It may be your opinion that they are “property” to do with as you please but the law would disagree with you.
