The head of Georgia's national security council said Wednesday Russia has sent 50 tanks into the central Georgian city of Gori, despite an agreed-upon ceasefire calling on both sides to retreat to positions they held before fighting began six days ago.

Security council head Alexander Lomaia said that the tanks entered Gori about 9:45 a.m. local time, but there was no independent confirmation of his claim.

It was much worse a few years ago during the Litvinenko poisoning. Had one thread when the Chekists posted an image of a bowl of soup with an eye in it. They did not realize that they were actually educating us at the time. About their inherent barbarism.

Yes, I've seen that pop up on a blog now too.

It sounds like the tanks that were in Gori have moved out on the highway towards the capital. My guess is that they may be taking up positions along the highway rather than moving on the capital itself.

BBC correspondent has visually confirmed this. Large number of armored vehicles moving at speed on the main highway from Gori to Tbilisi . . .

what’s the play . . . whether they are going into the captial our not this is not going to play well internationally. They may have had some modicum of support up to the cease fire, but it doesn’t look like Georgia breached the cease fire . .

Well just be a strategic counter weight to the Russian invasion. I’m not so sure the Russians would want to risk all out war with the US. We could provide a buffer zone, and protect the capital and act as “ peace keepers” I’m sure NATO could mobilize its airborne force rather quickly too... We could have at least 4-6 airborne combat brigades in Tblisi within 24 hours.

We need concerned Americans to start calling the Whitehouse line and letting the president know we do have an airborne force always on call and ready...

CNN reporter saying that a line of Russian vehicles heading for Tbilisi at 30 kph! He can’t see the end of the column. Armoured personel carrier, tanks and many trucks full of troops.

Wow, this is so overplaying their hand. The Ruskies had played this pretty smart up until now, maximizing their geopolitical gains, but Tbilisi seems like the downhill side of the curve for them.

Even just setting up a siege outside the city is a losing idea due to the world standing cost...

For the first time I’m not sure the Russians have a real plan.

Aren’t all those other leaders still in Tbilisi? Ukraine, Poland, etc? Trapping actual national leaders is a very, very, very bad idea.

I wonder how quickly that column can be intercepted and destroyed by forces we have close the area?

It looks like the 82nd wont be able to get there in time =(

For the first time I’m not sure the Russians have a real plan.

I am certain they do. They paused and changed it when the 5 Presidents arrived. But the Russians don't take a dump my friend without a plan.

"He had been told by Georgian officials that it was believed the convoy would turn off the road to Tbilisi toward an evacuated Georgian military base."

That makes sense, there was no way these were heading all the way to the capital, far too small a force. They will probably take up positions at that base or destory it and head back up north. Eiher way it's not exactly what you'd expect during a ceasefire.

Maybe after listening to all the pundits, they’ve decided that there’s nothing anyone can do to stop them.
