The head of Georgia's national security council said Wednesday Russia has sent 50 tanks into the central Georgian city of Gori, despite an agreed-upon ceasefire calling on both sides to retreat to positions they held before fighting began six days ago.

Security council head Alexander Lomaia said that the tanks entered Gori about 9:45 a.m. local time, but there was no independent confirmation of his claim.

Paging Mr. Churchill, Sir Winston Churchill, we are in need of a man with a spine.

As of yet no one has risen to the call of Freedom... These are indeed very dark times.

Since we (The United States of America) will not answer then perhaps...

Mr. Sarkozy, can you hear the screams of the woman and children, do you have any influence over NATO as we apparently no longer do.

“If you will not fight for the right when you can easily win without bloodshed, if you will not fight when your victory will be sure and not too costly, you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a small chance of survival. There may even be a worse case: you may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves.”
- Winston Churchill

But I also understand if we were to go to that level of using tanks, we might as well just wipe out whole neighborhoods with air fire.

If you don't have hard targets then what can the military do? I don't want our boys going house to house! I want our 155s going house to house.

What? Do they have him captured? Or are they going to wander around the woods and find big piles of steaming Big Foot poo and claim he was just there! Missed him by that much!

Pictures. Huh.

Who took the pictures? Why did they not take the body? You have the opportunity to solve a 100’s year old mystery and you have the actual proof in front of you and you just snap some photos? Knowing the ability of digital graphics in this day and age?

Sounds phoney baloney to me.

Supposedly awaiting DNA results but they did invite Fox News to come look at the body themselves.

So is the Ukraine helping Russia?

The Ukraine would not intentionally help Russia.The Ukraine and Georgia are to be heard in December as to their status in entering NATO.That's what ALOT of this is about.Russia does NOT want Georgia and the Ukraine in NATO.

Tbilisi would be a real surprise. That will be expensive for the Russians to take in terms of men and definitely in world opinion. Quite costly.

I agree. The Russian military is now just a shadow of the force that had its hat handed to it in Afghanistan. Georgia has a large contingent of American trained troops amassed in Tbilisi. You can bet the US is helping clandestinely with logistics and intelligence.

Here's an excerpt from an article on frontpagemag.com, today: Link below:

http://www.frontpagemag.com/Articles/Read.aspx?GUID=B248CCA5-26E4-477A-AEC5-18DB27B9CA95

But before we get wobbly in the knees, it would be wise to review the current state of Russia’s military to see how formidable our opponent actually is. At 1.13 million strong, the Russian army may be formidable in size, but the quality of its personnel leaves much to be desired. Made up largely of teenage conscripts drafted for one-year compulsory service, most show little commitment to their mission. Given the dire conditions they are forced to endure this is no surprise. Poorly equipped and supplied, many fall ill from a lack of proper care and nutrition. That frostbite is a common scourge in wintertime shows just how inadequately clothed and outfitted the Russian army is. It is hard to believe that only this year the transition was made to regular socks. Up until now, Russian soldiers wore the kind of foot wraps in use since the Napoleonic wars. The conduct of these beleaguered conscripts tends to be rowdy and unruly. Hazing of younger soldiers is a persistent problem with hundreds dying each year as a result. Those who think that Abu Ghraib represents the apotheosis of ruthless chicanery have not seen what goes on in the barracks of the Russian military. The morale of officers is hardly better.....

It would not be wise for the Big Bear to move on Georgia's capital city, sure, they can defeat the Georgians with sheer numbers, but at what cost, and, CAN THEY HOLD IT. It will be worse than the first years of the Iraq war were for the US, because these people are HAPPY with their leaders, and will never stop fighting the Russians. Talk about a QUAGMIRE.

Other former SSR's may come into the fray, and that will not be good for the possibilities of Russian reunification, their ultimate goal here. Just my opinion.

No bubble for me, just a desparate call for help, the reference to France was a thinly veiled insult to our inept response.

“Even just setting up a siege outside the city is a losing idea due to the world standing cost...

For the first time I’m not sure the Russians have a real plan.”

Hey where you been. This has ALWAYS been the Russian plan.
Crush democracy wherever it lies on the Russian borders.

That article is BS really. Russia right now could over run the capitol and hold it with no problem unless allied forces was to intervene. Georgia is in all practical purposes defeated and has no way to fight back.

Just imagine the spectacle. Russian Armor links up with Iranian Armor some where in Armenia.
~~~
That’s just what will happen,,,
I doubt Armenia will put up a fight at all,,,
This is the time to take out Iran,,,
Pooty will have a “Road to Nowhere”...
I was feeling the same way about our response,but with Russia continuing its march into Georgia,we are now in a better position to do something.We’ve given Russia the first move(to stop).Now,we can(and hopefully will) escalate ultimatums.
The Russians would gladly kill the entire Georgian population to avoid that. Look to the West for the rest of Vlad's plan, Ukraine, Romania, and Bulgaria. Once they linked up with the Iranians they will head West again into Lebanon via Syria effectively encircling our weakest (in resolve) NATO Ally Turkey and cutting all of Europe off from gas and oil.
