TBILISI, Georgia (CNN) -- The leaders of a former Eastern Bloc nation and four former Soviet republics showed support for Georgia in its conflict with Russia at a massive rally in Georgia's capital Tuesday night.

The presidents' appearances came shortly before France's leader announced that Georgia had accepted a Russian-French plan to end the conflict.

Thousands cheered as the presidents of Poland, Ukraine, Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia stood with Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili at a rally in Tbilisi, Georgia, late Tuesday.

They should all leave CIS, form a economic and military pact (maybe even form units incorporating all member states) and join NATO.

Where are the leaders from Central Asian countries (those countries end with ‘tan’ in their names)? Or they think Russia is afraid to attack another Muslim society after what happened to Chechnya?

Yep. It would be prudent for the xyz-stans to join the circle around Russia. Maybe also the Mongolians (although that would p*ss of the Chicoms big time).

I believe that the most obvious voice to be raised against the Russians should come from those countries that suffered for so many years under the Soviet boot.

If Poland Hungary, the Ukraine, Monrivia et al, stood together to demand a Russian withdrawl that would get putti-poo's attention.

The Russians would be surrounded, they hate that.

The XYZ-Stans have most of the gas and oil! The former eastern block countries NAD THE US ofA should band together to build a new pipeline to supply Europe via the southern Georgian route.

That would REALLY upset Pootie!

Lukashenko can’t take sides, since he is the stoogiest stooge of Putin. Belarus is the renegade among the ex-Warsaw pact/Soviet states, and instead going West retained the Soviet system.

I am so happy the presidents of Poland, Ukraine, Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia made it to Georgia after all to show their solidarity. And let that be a well-deserved slap in the face to Putin and his puppet Medvedev.

Agree with the first part, disagree with the second. Why would ANYONE join NATO now? The Brits and French are “sharing” aircraft carriers. The Germans won’t fight anyone, and will sell out anyone who will. And the Euros will talk everyone to death, on any issue, forever.

The US should enact bilalateral treaties with the Eastern European countries, or set up another organization with them, and anyone else from the are who:[1] wants to join,[2] establishes a democratic society, and [3] Pledges to reach, and maintain specified military standards and levels. The US should also quit NATO. Let the Euros [western] fend for themselves.

In regard to your homepage; we also will die as men. Better yet, the enemy will die so we don't have to.

No one who dares to scorn America wants to face the American South. Amen to that.

Yep. I took this quote from fellow FReeper a_Turk, who IMO coined it well on regard of the West doing virtually nothing against Russia.
