I am not really sure I can evaluate this without additional information. That is a rather subjected comment.

It is Ha'aretz.

An attack against Iran would be be a Tit for Tat and I can’t believe Bush is passing this up...

The Americans viewed the request, which was transmitted (and rejected) at the highest level, as a sign that Israel is in the advanced stages of preparations to attack Iran.”

This story sounds contrived. There has been an unbelievable amount of traffic back and forth between Israel and the US over the past 6 weeks including Defense, Chairman of Joint Chiefs etc. Hard to believe we just got a request for hardware and based upon that request alone we determined Israel was in the advanced stages of preparation.

Yeah right. Plausible deniability.

Could be disinformation. A smokescreen. (I sure hope so!)

...saying such a strike would undermine American interests. They also demanded that Israel give them prior notice...

Wink, wink, nudge, nudge...

What is the USA doing so far from home.. in Iraq anyway?
Iran has threatened to destroy Israel.
Iran is much larger than Israel in terms of population and size and world support.
Who supports Israel? The USA? How? By denying Israel its natural right to defend itself and pre-emptive strikes?
Seems like the USA is more of an enemy to Israel actuall.
I’d say fly the IAF through Iraq and do what you need to do.
Have the guts and courage. Think of the Hebrew warriors of old, thousands of years old. America is only a few hundred years old and is nothing less than an advanced big bully.
Do what you must do, and shoot the U.S. airforce out of Iraq’s skies if necessary. By denying Israel access to Iran in terms of a strike, the USA is thus on the side of Iran.
Israel should refuse all U.S. support and the ties that hold it down. Rely on yourself and be strong.
It worked in 1967 in the six day war- U.S. weapons and banana republic ties came in droves after that.
Israel should develop ties with Japan, China etc and forget the U.S. which is a selfish dying empire the new Rome.
But the Israeli leaders are cowards, fools and in the pockets of the greedy Americans.
So Israel remains a little banana republic of a big greedy imploding new Rome. May it implode soon, and free Israel from its pathetic politics.

Hmmmm. Could be a smokescreen. I’ll admit I’m biased. If I were in charge, I’d give Israel whatever they needed with no questions asked (my variation of Reagan’s reaction to the 1981 taking out of Osirak reactor.....boys will be boys).
