Owner Tells Employees, 'Shoot To Kill'
JACKSON, Miss. -- The owner of a radio station said vehicles at the business have been broken into the last three nights in a row.
Charles Evers of Jackson's WMPR said he's instructed his employees to shoot to kill.
"I don't want them to worry about them to come back," Evers said. "It doesn't make any sense for us, who work hard every day to make an honest living, for some thug who lies around all day to come and take our stuff."
Friday morning, Evers said two of his overnight announcers shot at some car burglars. They missed, but Evers said that if the thieves come back, they might not be as lucky.
Surveillance video showed the men Evers said he thinks are breaking into the cars at the station. A man can be seen running from the parking lot with DJ equipment that Evers said was stolen from cars.
Thursday was the third night in a row that cars at the radio station on Pecan Park Drive were broken into and vandalized.
No one was found after that shooting. The announcers said they don't think any of their shots hit the thieves.
"We have got to be more visible ourselves and help our officers," announcer Joe Washington said. "Try to protect ourselves and our belongings, that's all we can do. And pray that God gives us a solution."
Evers installed cameras, lights and a fence to keep thieves out. But he said the thieves have kicked down the fence and broken his lights repeatedly.
Detectives with the Jackson Police Department said they are investigating the break-ins. They also said they have increased patrols in the area.
Evers said he will stand behind his orders to employees: protect yourself, protect this property and shoot to kill.
Looks like he has done everything right except for some target practice
Did he go to the UN and get permission to shoot to kill?

FWIW, it’s a blues and gospel station (FM 90.1).

I figured there was a religious connection because of the reference to God’s help in the article.
3 nights in a row and malicious vandalism. Why isn’t this called a “hate crime”?
This dude is a complete dumbass and better get familiar with the law (or at least a lawyer). Shame on his employees if they think they will be immune from prosecution.

Not to worry. Charles Evers is basically untouchable. What’s more, the overwhelming majority of black people in Jackson are — by and large — just as fed up with crime as are the ‘Pubbie white folks who live east of I-55/north of Fortification Street. No way that the new DA (a black man, by the way) would seek an indictment here, nor is there any chance a jury would convict the employees.
Well, the last thing I wanted
was to get in a fight
in Jackson, Mississippi
on a Saturday night
‘specially when there was
three of them
and only one of me...
Even if you clear the criminal charges, a civil judgment can ruin your life.
He needs to get some of those riot control explosives that embassies use, the I-454 Stingmore Mine.
It’s less than lethal, most of the time anyway.
You don't seem to know anything about the situation on the ground in Jackson, where this incident occurred. No jury there — civil or criminal — is going to put Charles Evers or his station's employees in jeopardy.
OK...didn't know that. I guess he and his employees are clear to kill anyone they want for any reason they want. The laws are for others.
welcome to america. lesson number one, rich democrats- especially black ones- can, literally, get away with murder.
never said i agreed with it, just stating the way life tends to work.
