Maybe Bush and his cronies can trade Kosovo for South Ossetia and save a lot of lives of people who share Christian values. Otherwise the violent Islamic and Communists types win this round.

“territorial integrity and sovereignty and indirectly blaming Russia for causing the crisis”
Wasn't it Saakashvili that fired the first shot?

"Former foreign minister Dienstbier says he understands the current Czech government’s response to the crisis, but adds that after Prague recognised the independence of Kosovo, the Czechs – along with the rest of the western world - are morally on very thin ice."

He is 100% correct so lets fix both problems right now. The negotiations should be that Russia quits pursuing its conquest of Georgia and stays out of Georgian inter political squabbling visa vis South Osietta and Abchazia. In exchange all countries withdraw recognition of Kosovo and let Serbia and Kosovo sort it out.

The Eastern Europeans would love to give full throated support to Georgia. But everyone is waiting for son-of-the-wimp to show that he is capable of standing up to an actual military threat - as opposed to a bunch of third world jihadis, fouth rate armies, and stone age farmers.

Simply:
get out from Kosovo and Georgia.
Mutual withdrawal of US and Russian troops.

No. The Ossetians began shelling Georgian villages. That was the bait.

Since it seems that there is little that the US can do directly militarily for Georgia, it will be necessary to save face. The easiest way would be to find some little country within the NATO sphere of infkuence which is allied to Russia and crush it like a bug. Since the Russian action in Georgia implicitly endorses the NATO rationale in Kosovo, it would be wise to seize this opportunity to complete the detachment of Kosovo from Serbia, probably with annexation to Albania.

Well said.

The South Ossetians fired at the Georgians from the safety of Tskhinvali (a South Ossetian city). The Georgians - not as copacetic in their own destruction as Olmert's Israel - fired back. Hence the talk of massacres and so forth, when in fact the Ossetians are wearing their own civilians as body armor.

This tactic - of firing from the midst of civilian concentrations - has been made infamous by Hamas, Hezbollah, the Palestinian refugee camps and so on. It's not surprising to see Russian agents using the same tactic - the KGB made Arafat, and the KGB (with no name change) are running South Ossetia today.

Here is a little information about this ‘former foreign minister Dienstbier’:

‘Jiri Dienstbier - during the 1950’s and 1960’s journalist, alleged KGB or directly GRU cadre, as communist journalist he was able to travel around the World during the communist era in Czechoslovakia. Between 1958-69 he worked as foreign political commentator and editor for Czechoslovak [communist] Radio, between 1964-67 Dienstbier was the CZ Radio correspondent for the Far East and was in Jakarta, Indonesia at the time when there was [thank God unsuccessful] a communist coup. In 1968-69 he worked as foreign correspondent in the United States, possibly for communist party newspaper Red Right [Rude Pravo]. A CPCZ member since 1958 till 1970. Dienstbier is a founding member of Charter 77, a speaker of Charter 77 in 1979 and later in 1985. After the “collapse of communism” in Czechoslovakia, he became Czechoslovak Government's Deputy Prime Minister in a government of PM Marian Calfa and Dienstbier later became CZ Foreign Minister. While in his post as Foreign Minister, Dienstbier was involved in various scandals regarding appointing various “former” communists and STB agents [STB foreign espionage section mostly] as Czechoslovak Ambassadors around the World.’

Frankly his position is not surprising.

You mean like the KLA began burning Serbian churches before NATO began their bombing on the KLA's behalf?

Europe’s greatest criminal state

Sorry, Russia is now, as it has been since the time of Ivan the Terrible, Europe's greatest criminal state.

So how much to Albanians get for a white slave? Is there a 2 for 1 deal if one buys a kilo of heroin?

Yes. And exactly like the Bosnians baited NATO in Sarajevo. And exactly like the Palestinians bait the Israelis. Are you reaching for a point?

I nominate Kaliningrad/Königsburg, but as punishment, not as a trade. We still need to throw the Russians out of the Caucasus.

He’right but our stupidity regarding Kosovo does not excuse Russia’s barbarity today.
