If South Ossetia does not want to be part of Georgia, then it is perfectly okay for the Russians to step in and protect their independence.
I may be outside of the normal FR posts here, but this is the kind of freedom we were preaching for other break-away republics from the Soviet Union and Russia.
They have apparently been independent since 1991 and Georgia attacked them first.
I believe the righteous position is to side with the South Ossetian people here against Georgia.
In any event, the world will be a more peaceful place if we just let break-away regions break-away and become independent states. You can’t force people to live together and if they don’t want to, just separate them and things will be fine.
The world is an economically integrated unit now, NOT a politically integrated one.
