Well, there is a wrong move. George warned them to not move the conflict out of the South Ossetia area.

Tbilisi civilian airport hit in Russian air strike

Just before the French Foreign Minister was due to land. I doubt M. Kouchner is amused.

“The USSR is back boys and girls. As if he didn’t figure that out long ago.”

Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.

When are we going to hear cries from the left about Russian agression or imperialism? Any anti-war rallies with people carrying signs comparing Putin to Hitler planned?

This disproportionate response and the rapid nature of the Russian action (they were clearly at a high state of readiness eager to pounce) show the true nature of the Soviets (Oh, I mean Russians). Under Putin, Russia has become an aggressive and chauvinistic state eager to punish its neighbors. It arms Iran (including air defense weapons that would be used by Iran to defend its nuclear weapons production facilities), Syria and Venezuela. It has threatened to return to Cuba. It sells uranium to Iran, which Iran works diligently to turn into a nuclear weapon to use on Israel. Russia thwarts international efforts to use diplomacy and sanctions to stop Iran and in effect provides Iran’s mad mullahs with cover for its effort. Russia under Putin has moved from a nuisance to a neo-colonial country willing to use naked terror for its own aims.

The Cold War has turned violent. If anyone thought it was over and the USSR was a relic of the past, you haven’t been paying attention.

Here?

The The task force includes a missile cruiser.

Military officials insist the operation is to help refugees and is not part of an operation to blockade Georgia.

Georgia’s National Security Council Secretary, Aleksandr Lomaya, earlier said that Russian ships have reached the Abkhazian port of Ochamchir.

Refugees? Oh yea, right.

an added benefit to the world's second largest owner and exporter of crude oil is the high risk of one more spike if they threaten that pipeline.

it's been their market for years, but they've begun to lose control over the price, as economic reality always catches up with market-deniers and manipulators.

I wouldn't go so far as to postulate that such is the primary motivation for Putin's naked aggression, but would be surprised if it did not figure significantly into his calculations.

Incidentally, I thought he wasn't president anymore.... /s
