It may not have been what they wanted, but it’s what they got. Considering the anti-west propaganda that they feed their populace on a regular basis, they shouldn’t be one bit surprised.
I followed the Olympics opening thread last night, and the FReepers who’d been to China spoke of how warmly they were greeted and well treated by average Chinese who seem to like Americans, govt propaganda notwithstanding. It could be this guy was just a nut case. Or, it could be he’s a Chinese Muslim, which groups did threaten to create havoc at the Olympics. The story has yet to unfold (if ever it does). I just feel so sorry for the victims, the family and the volleyball team.
