Democrats sure must be thanking their lucky stars it is not John Edwards they picked to bear their standard. And, if Edwards ever was on the short list for Barack Obama's veep job, he is there no longer.
Confirming the prescience of those who saw Edwards as a man of transparently phony piety - good son of the sawmill, devoted family man, clasping his sick wife's hand as the violins played and the white doves flew - here now is a man forced to admit to a reckless marital infidelity, one he has been denying for weeks.
Here now is a man who went happily philandering as he was about to start a run for the White House - and who gave his sexual partner a job and paid her out of campaign funds.
And then had the gall to ask Democrats to vote for him on the false pretense that he was an honest man - and despite the fact that his candidacy was doomed.
Confessing Friday, Edwards said, "In the course of several campaigns, I started to believe that I was special and became increasingly egocentric and narcissistic."
You think?
Actually, he was probably among the last to know.
So now Edwards has been reduced to denying that he fathered his partner's child - and declaring that he is willing to be tested to prove his lack of paternity.
Edwards' fall from grace through the revelation of his true character is a spectacular thing to behold, topped, we would have to say, only by Eliot Spitzer's plummet.
In this particular case, here is a man who got thisclose to the vice presidency four years ago - and who, this time around, emerged from the Democratic primaries with enough delegates in his pocket that he still fancied himself a party power broker of some importance.
Till now.
Americans, large of heart, forgive many offenders.
Flat-out liars, not so much.
Obama seems to have had this belief already before the campaigns started, as it was reinforced by his surroundings and the MSM.
I suspect MSM and dems would explain a Obama love child as being a ‘cultural thing’, which actually proved Obama was on a higher plain. Typical white people probably wouldn’t get it, but that’s their fault.
Who do you think broke this story and has been pushing it for the past few months? Yes, the Enquirer.
The MSM has become such a joke that if you want "facts" you have to sometimes turn to the National Enquirer for them.
Its only a Democrat nothing to see here, move along.
National Enquirer Publishes Spy Photos of John Edwards and Alleged Love Child
Love the title of this article.. “the Late John Edwards” and how no one could see Edward’s phony piety before now, is beyond me.
No, that’s Edwards. He’s talking about Obama. Wake up, wake up!!!!! :O)
Funny to see all these liberal papers finally acknowledging that Edwards is garbage.
Ann Coulter certainly did.
I wish I were a fly on the wall on some of the conversations that has went on behind the scenes in this debacle.
How do we get the National Enquirer up for Pulitzer. That might wake up the stupid MSM, when their precious prize goes to someone doing the actual job of reporting, investigating and writing.
Sawmills and cotton mills are a tiny bit different from each other. LOL
Edwards is the son of a COTTON mill supervisor.
(Folks here in the South call cotton mill workers "lint heads", but your own lint accumulation seems to be on the inside instead of the outside.)
The real story here is the MSM’s refusal to cover the story until Edwards finally confessed. CNN’s... MSNBC’s... etc. ... analysis after-the-fact has been putrid, vomit-inducing baloney!
He always talks about his "humble" background. Where I came from, his daddy would have been a rich, somewhat resented yuppie. Edwards would have been from the upper crust of the world I grew up in. So I have two words for him and his "humble" background, and it ain't "let's dance".
Had Edwards actually won the Dem nomination the title of this thread might have been “The Late Rielle Hunter”. And they wouldn’t have meant it metaphorically.
