Energy Option Dems Rule Out: 'Do Everything'
IBD Editorials ^ | August 8, 2008 | Charles Krauthammer

Posted on 08/08/2008 6:31:27 PM PDT by Kaslin

Let's see: housing meltdown, credit crunch, oil shock not seen since the 1970s. The economy is slowing, unemployment growing and inflation increasing. It's the sixth year of a highly unpopular war and the president's approval rating is at 30%.

The Italian Communist Party could win this election. The American Democratic Party is trying its best to lose it.

Democrats have the advantage on just about every domestic issue from health care to education. However, Americans' greatest concern is the economy, and their greatest economic concern is energy (by a significant margin: 37% to 21% for inflation).

Yet Democrats have gratuitously forfeited the issue of increased drilling for domestic oil and gas. By an overwhelming ratio of 2-1, Americans want to lift the moratorium preventing drilling on the Outer Continental Shelf, thus unlocking vast energy resources shut down for the last 27 years.

Democrats have been adamantly opposed. They say that we cannot drill our way out of the oil crisis. Of course not. But it is equally obvious that we cannot solar or wind or biomass our way out. Does this mean that because any one measure cannot solve a problem, it needs to be rejected?

Yeah, well. Lucky for the RATS they are up against an outfit even more inept than The Italian Communist Party.

i don’t understand why when some dem says “we can’t drill our way out of this crisis”,

the response should be:

your democrat solutions will take even longer, if ever they come to fruition.

I beg to differ - we can drill our way out of the so-called "oil crisis". Just talking about drilling has pushed the price down.

"Democrats have been adamantly opposed. They say that we cannot drill our way out of the oil crisis"

That is almost like saying, "No I won't shave this morning because I will just have to get up and do it all over again tomorrow morning". You do what you have to do, until you find a closer shave or an electric razor. We have one, the dems just won't let us plug it in...

“I don’t understand why when some dem says “we can’t drill our way out of this crisis”

It’s the same thing as them saying “you can’t eat your way out of this famine...”

They are economic illiterates. Intelligence is really not a “Blue State” thing.

Exactly. The price of oil went down to $115 per barrel

They are using the lame excuses because they want us dependent on foreign oil

When dems say “we can’t drill our way out of this crisis” my response is “can’t we at least try?”

We got where we are today because we massively curtailed oil exploration and drilling. The Dems need to pull their head out and pass bills that encourage all responsible energy production.

Looking back at history removes the emotion and anxiety of the present and provides a pretty good evaluation of circumstances.

I believe that ten years from now we will be evaluating the post-9/11 decade (that's really when this first decade started) as one of remarkable success.

Yes, each of us will recall the housing and energy shocks, but they appear to be correcting with grace and aplomb. We very well may avert a recession that everyone emotionally believes we are in because the media says so.

With that in mind, the election remains key. Obama will undoubtedly pursue policies that will ravage an economy which has sustained itself thanks to fundamental philosophical reforms by Reagan.

With Obama still struggling to maintain a statistically significant lead during high profile "crises" and media hagiography, I think McCain has a good chance of winning hands down if oil is tamed and housing is looking up (if not necessarily up literally).

I will absolutely love to see the Dems react to their false prophet's demise. They could be facing another '94 in terms of political shifts.

The liberal Democrats do all in their power to bring about the situation described above so that 1.) the media will blame Bush and the evil Conservatives" and 2.) portray the liberal Democrats as the solution to all these problems.

Like Rush says: bad news is what the liberals thrive on. They want loss in Iraq and Afghanistan, the want a bad economy, they want high unemployment and all sorts of other misery that they will promise the stupid people of America what have been mind-altered in public madrassas (skools and Unidiversities) that the liberal libturds are the answer to all their ills.

When they promise to tax and regulate all the evil corporations and businesses into poverty to distribute it to the poor huddled masses, thousands cheer...you know we're in trouble.

May God bless and have mercy on the remaining days of this once great nation.
