When Olympia first pushed for Tribal Casinos, to ease fears they said that the Casinos would be located just on tribal land. Well That didn't last long. They have popped up everywhere. I have 3 within walking distance of my home and I'm 20 miles from the nearest Indian owned land.

Gov. Chris Gregoire is benefiting from more than $650,000 in campaign contributions from Indian tribes that hit the jackpot in 2005 when she killed a gambling compact potentially worth more than $140 million a year to the state.

Unlike 22 other states that collect millions from revenue sharing agreements for tribal gambling, Washington gets no money from tribal casinos under the compact that Gregoire renegotiated with the Spokane Tribe.

It's all in the definition of "Indian owned land" -- which is NOT syonymous with "tribal reservation."

the other story about gambling is this....a few years ago, a bill was introduced, maybe it was a referendum, don't recall....but it was going to allow taverns and restaurants if they wanted to have some gaming machines...the proceeds would go to the state, not the Indians....its was going to amount to millions of dollars...

the Indians lobbied heavily against it....as did the loyal Rats...they're excuse was they didn't want gambling to be just anywhere, for the children you know....

then they go ahead and EXPAND all Indian gambling without any tax benefits.....
