Now what if a white columnist supporting McCain had written “black voters can’t bring themselves to vote for a candidate who surpasses them by every measure?” That writer would be accused of being a racist. Which is what Mary Mitchell happens to be.

This is exactly the kind of thing that is hurting Obama. Despite what she may think, people were inclined to like Obama. It is exactly this kind of thing, the Rev. Wright/Mary Mitchell factor maybe we can call it, that is turning people off.

Wright, or Mrs. Obama, or Wright go off on a rant, and all over America people's eyes get big, they look at one another and think "what was that all about?". "Where did that come from?" And Obama starts to lose ground. She is a big part of his problem, though she may not want to recognize it.
