11/23/2004 Dreams from My Father Book Signing, New York, New York The Basic outline of the government we possess and our civic religion as a people is such that potentially, at least, we could create a society that is a model for the world, it isnt right now.
Loud, phlegm-laden *Ahem*
The fact is, our morals and self-imposed duties as a society have disappeared - whereas once we were a beacon of hope for millions, and a selfless nation ready to give completely to help another, too much of society today is all about "me-me-me." In speaking of the civic religion, Obama tries to hearken back to Lincoln, who believed this country was united around the common ideals of freedom (not liberty) and justice, regardless of what religion was espoused. Now, people are fat, dumb, and 'happy' - bread and circuses - and have no concept of either duty or true freedom. I'm waiting for the day that American Idol gets more votes than POTUS.
I think this can be reversed, but I don't per se disagree with Obama - I just believe the issues he identifies are the wrong ones.
I'll ask around...
He wouldn’t have said that. He’s too slick to come out with what he really thinks.
That was Wright who said that.
I found the video. I don’t know if it’s real but start at 1:30

No. Obama wouldn’t be dumb enough to come out and say what he really thinks.
It’s been tinkered with.
And that’s too bad. Obama people will jump on that. Makes us look bad. There is enough about Obama to hang him without resorting to this.
