Huh. Well, to each his own.
I thought the movie was incredibly ambitious, technically and thematically. And scaled the heights of its ambitions. It is the cinematic equivalent of Tolstoy, or Wagner - epic, profound, spectacular. For a studio tentpole movie, the film has an intensely meditative and uncompromising vision.
And Ledger’s performance was brilliant.
