Is this a way of pushing for vouchers? Or are the Chicago schools shooting themselves in the foot? Anyone from Illinois have updated information?

Looks like yet another shakedown tactic.

Whites have better schools because they have better communities, based in home ownership. Liberals sabotaged blacks in the 1960s by setting up “public housing” ghettos across the nation, to trap blacks and ensure they could never own their homes. Why blacks don’t blame liberals for their predicament is beyond me. No amount of “funding” will ever replace their nonexistent communities and decrepit cultural values.

Here is a taste...

Call for Chicago students to skip 1st school day

Mon Jul 28, 8:03 PM EDT
Community leaders on Monday called on students from poorer parts of Chicago to protest inequalities in school funding by skipping the first day of classes.

State Sen. James Meeks wants students to spend Sept. 2 trying to enroll in a suburban school district that spends much more per student than Chicago Public Schools does. Critics of the planned protest say it will send the wrong message to children and undermine campaigns to get as many students as possible to attend the first day of classes in the nation’s third-largest school district.

Protest organizers, though, say their message about unequal funding trumps any on attendance.

“Today we are back to two-tiered schools — white and affluent on one side, and black, brown and poor on the other,” said Meeks, who also is a minister on the city’s South Side. “That’s an injustice and it’s immoral.”

The amounts in this article are shocking. $17,000 per student in an affluent district. “Only” $10,000 in Chicago. The problem is not insufficient funding for minority schools.

While most Americans know hard work is rewarded, some still think temper tantrums work best.

Since inner city schools normally have a hard time getting kids to show up for the first day of school in any year (some kids don’t show up for weeks), they know that they can declare this protest a success.

I’ve got the perfect suggestion.
Leave the country if you don’t like it here. I almost wish this country would go down the drain so we can finally start weeding out all this CRAP. Im sick and tired of hearing about it!

I don’t think he was attacking you personally, but making the same general statement that I make, If you don’t like our country, don’t come here and try to change it into the third world POS H*ll hole “you” came from.

I was thinking the same thing. I was also wondering that if they were successful, what about transportation. That would be thousands more dollars, unless the parents foot the bill.

Actually, white does include other successful ethnic groups. "Minority" is a code word that means "black", "negro", or "colored", at least in areas where "African-American" students are falling behind. Even if white students were less than half of the population, which they are in many areas, they would not be entitled to whatever special treatment minorities rate. I'm grateful for that though because the most cruel and racist thing you can do is to give kids special treatment instead of demanding that they do their best. At least the white and Asian kids are safe from that abuse. Hopefully school systems will soon start looking after the minority kids by treating them as individuals and challenging them, instead of making excuses and giving them special consideration.

One of the most damaging unintended consequences of ending segregation was to allow liberal white females to begin teaching black children. Before I go on, let me state that as a Black man I DO NOT support the idea of going backwards to segregation! We’ve crossed that bridge and burned it. But when I was growing up, black teachers taught black kids and they tolerated 0-zilch-nada nonsense. They were extremely dedicated people who believe in what they were doing, and they commanded both respect and authority. My mother was a librarian, but worked closely with the school teachers. She often complained about how young white teachers had such low expectations of black children. They expected them to be hungry, to perform badly. They coddled them. My mom used to say, “You can’t teach a child if you pity them.” She always pointed out that black children are not coming to school hungry or whatever. They may sometimes eat the wrong things but their parents made sure they were fed. White liberal females were a bane to poor black children. Eventually, old-style racism combined with new-style liberal bigotry and forced the best Black teachers and principals out. I’ve seen it happen. It took a lifetime to get into this mess, it’ll take lifetime to get out.
